Good topic on Jon Miller today

If you could automatically mark any two games on the schedule as "guaranteed wins", which two would you pick, and why?

I would pick Kansas and Nebraska.

Kansas - A win over a ranked conference foe would be another stepping stone for the Chizik era. Being that it is the conference opener, it would open a lot of eyes and could shift some positive attention our way early in the conference season.

Nebraska - In the Chizik/Pelini race to rebuild programs that went 2-6 in the Big 12 last year, this game is huge. Not only for regional fan bragging rights, but also for recruiting. Our two-game win streak against the Huskers at The Jack was broken in 2006. It's time to get another one started.

I hate to even mention them, but I would not choose Iowa because... it doesn't matter.

The problem with beating Iowa is that when we don't win another "big" game the rest of the year, it looks like a fluke to the rest of the Nation. The road to success for Iowa State goes through the Big 12, not Iowa City.

    What do you guys think?

    Mizzou and KU.

If you want to be the best in the north you have to beat the best.

That and both are home games.

But I gotta pick SDSU and Kent State. They should be automatic wins regardless and we can't afford to lose games like that again this fall.

John Miller was talking about Iowa running the table yesterday afternoon. At that point I lost all respect for anything he says and turned the channel.

But he said ISU would go 10-2 too, that would make me happy.

And for this topic I would pick Missouri and Oklahoma St.

I like the optimism, but I think guaranteeing wins against KU and Mizzou is overdoing it just a bit. I'm not saying it isn't possible that we could beat them--just saying that I think guaranteeing it is a bit overboard.

I could see an argument for Nebraska, but I'm more apt to go with 22 and say SDSU and Kent St. (Or least they should be guaranteed.)

Yeah... I'm not a big Jon Miller fan, by any means, but they were clearly goofing around making those predictions. All in fun.

Define "guaranteed wins." If you mean which 2 you think we realistically we have the best chances to win I'd say SDSU and Kent State. If it were 2 that if I could pick any 2 games that would be great to win I'd say KU and Mizzou.

guaranteed wins does NOT equal give me any two wins.

ISU_Alum, I think you aren't interpreting this correctly. I think he means if you had to put your life down against picking two wins, which two.

Or am I not understanding it?

Iowa and Mizzou.... These fanbases have been increasingly annoying to me and it would shut them up.

The thing about Nebraska is that they seem to always think their team sucks. If they go to a smaller bowl, it's a bad year... It's dumb, but doesn't really annoy me too much.

What annoys me are teams that aren't all that good and the fanbases think they are incredible....

Exactly - for the reasons you mentioned as well as the fact that those two schools have probably the most arrogant fanbases in the midwest, if not the nation.

I got angry and turned it off by then.

Ohh good point.... I sort of read it like that too at the beginning, but then based on other answers I went with if I could pick any two.

If I put my life on it, it'd have to be SDSU and Kent State. Normally I'd throw in UNLV too, but I have a bad feeling about that game (hopefully I'm wrong!)

I didn't hear the show. But, if you could make two games automatic wins, wouldn't you pick two games that we were supposed to lose?
