    Household Cyclone Dilemma

My family recently moved and before we moved my wife found some old newspapers I kept for one reason or another. In those old papers there was a DMR Big Peach and it was the day after Troy Davis ran for 378 yards in one game. My wife who is also a Cyclone fan was going to throw it, but I made her keep it. She asked me what we are going to do with the paper tonight and I said we are going to frame it and hang it in the basement living room with the rest of our Cyclone stuff. She gave me a dirty look and said I dont think so.
I'm I crazy for wanting to hang this up? Any pointers on what I can do to get her to change her mind?

No, you are not crazy. That is a historic event. Maybe show her how historic, and let her know that it means something to you.

Actually, do a really good job of getting it framed, and she may change her mind. I can see where she'd think "WTF - that will look awful!" with something like that.

Done correctly, those things can look nice.

Frame it, put it up, and convince her how good it looks... At the same time get a picture that is special to her framed and immediately divert her attention to that if she starts to complain...

My paper from the end of the streak vs. Iowa hangs in my office at work. But my wife has allowed my ISU stuff in our basement recroom, along with my Elvis stuff. Rest of the house is hers.

    Re: Household Cyclone Dilemma

My wife and I have agreed that I get a "man den" where I will get to hang all of the stuff she doesn't want in the rest of the house, such as my signed Cyclone football poster and my shot glass cabinet. She gets at least a veto power (which in reality means supreme authority) with regard to decorating the rest of the house.

    Re: Household Cyclone Dilemma

I would say frame it and hang it.

The Big Peach could be a little faded by now, so make sure it's well-lit.

    BRING BACK THE BIG PEACH.

Do you know that for a while that the DM Register hired a plane to fly over games to take photos of big plays?

I say get a new wife. I have had all the same fights with mine about the ISU gear. It's just easier to find a new wife.

I'm happy to say that I have the Register framed November 14, 1992 and it really looks great.

Thanks guys. Ill get it framed, hang it up, and see how long it takes for her to realize it is up. She will get over it.

    Re: Household Cyclone Dilemma

Even if you don't hang it up right away, at least frame it so it is preserved.

    Re: Household Cyclone Dilemma

I am guessing that she could be coming from the perspective of "why do you want to keep this? You had it in this box/folder/whatever all of these years and NEVER did anything with it... Now all of a sudden it's important?"

I'm not taking her side, but I've been in this type of situation before. What I try to do in the future, is if there is something I really want to keep because it's important, I frame it right away and hang it up...

The more time it takes for it to collect dust, the perception of how important it is, decreases...
