    Ames sweet corn

where would yall say the absolute BEST sweet corn is around here? i have had 1 batch already, and it was terrible. i picked some at work today, and am cooking it right now, but when i taste tested it off the stalk it wasnt real promising.

back in the 'wood i have a few favorite stands depending on what im lookin for.

and what about the farmers markets? how are those?

when are they? i know the one on north grand is weds night and sat morning, but what about the other one that is just north of lincolnway?

I dunno, but I was just back in town to move in this last weekend, and all I can say is that farmers or whomever do a FINE job of finding *ahem* employees to work the sweet corn tents, at least the one at 13th & Grand and out in front of the furniture place by Target

I think the one at 13th and Grand has pretty good corn, but I don't remember, honestly. I bought some there a few years ago.

Whenever I buy at 13th and Grand I always end up tipping the girls... they say it is the college fund... who knows.

Nichole's Countryside Fruit Stand on Highway 69 in Story City. All of the stuff there is off the chain. Local, fresh and reasonably priced.

If they have it (which has proven difficult here because of demand) it's gold.

    Re: Ames sweet corn

The Grimes stands (one is in front of target) have consistently been the best over the years. With that being said, I have found very little up to the standards we are all accustomed to. Maybe with the wet spring and late planting, it grew too fast after pollination?

    Re: Ames sweet corn

I picked 25 dozen ears today to put up and think the quality is some of the best I have ever raised. I don't think the year affected the taste of mine at all. What variety does Grimes corn sell, anyone know?

Thanks, thats what I was thinking to, not my favorite, but an ok early variety. I prefer a later variety, more flavor.
