    Talking Kegerator!!!

Alright, this is the thread to show off your beauty (if you have a picture). Let us know if you bought it or made it, and if you made it, where you got your parts.

I just moved into a new apartment with 3 new roommates and we are all beer drinkers, and we are considering building one of our own (as cheap as possible). Tips and suggestions are appreciated!!

    Re: Kegerator!!!

Good thread... I want one too! Of course I priced it out and the cost of a keg vs bottles is not all that much different. Of course the kegs I wanted were $153 for a half.

    Re: Kegerator!!!

you can get a decent one for about $500. With 4 people that's pretty cheap.

Switch to drinking boulevard, it is cheaper than that for a full keg and is yummy! :)

Best place to get kegs, IMO, is Spirit Boulevard in Ankeny. If you tell them you have a keg fridge, you don't have to pay a deposit on your keg. Also, when I go to pick up the keg (rarely as Jeff usually does) they load it for me.

Thanks... but remember we are college kids and nothing is cheap enough for us!!

I had a coworker who built a CO2 powered kegerator for around $175.

BTW - I got ours at Nebraska Furniture Mart in WDM. It is a good brand and was around $400 during their "friends/family pricing" or some special like that. Ripvdub... take a pic and post it!

Are you telling me you can't swing $125? Looks to me like they come with everything you need.

    Re: Kegerator!!!

Bought mine last Thanksgiving at Nebraska furniture mart. Stainless steel front. Holds a full or half keg. Digital temperature control. Its a Danby and it was rated the highest in a review in Wired magazine, FWIW.

Last time we got a full keg of Boulevard Wheat for $130. You can still see through it so you might not like it as much as other beers, but it was so much better than the Golden Lights we usually get. Not really friendly on the waistline though.

    Re: Kegerator!!!

You can make your own pretty easily with this kit.

Kegerator - Door Keg Conversion Kits

I did this with an old fridgerator. You can find an old fridge in the paper and buy this kit. More expensive with the CO2 tank. I bought a bigger tank at a welding supply store to go with mine. Tank last longer since it holds more.

    Re: Kegerator!!!

I got lucky, the house we bought had a keg refrigerator already built under the basement stairs across from the bar.

    Re: Kegerator!!!

I thought you just drilled a hole in an apartment sized fridge and attached the tapper to the top of that. Silly me.

    Re: Kegerator!!!

Here is mine. I built it out of a chest freezer. It holds 4 five gallon kegs of my homebrew. A chest freezer is easy to convert and I have not damaged the freezer.
I am extremely happy with how it came out!
I got most of my parts from Midwest Supplies and Northern Brewer. Both are in Minneapolis but I got them over the internet. The Freezer is from Sears. They are the only black chest freezer I have found.

I had one for my first couple of years at ISU. My favorite words were "house cup" followed by a ridiculous budge to the front of the line.
