    Catching Up With: Kantrail Horton

AMES, Iowa- There is no dispute that Kantrail Horton was a tough guy. With a body built more like a professional wrestler than a basketball player, the burly guard from Covington, Ga., was the cornerstone for Iowa State's unprecedented success in men's basketball from 2000-2001.

    Re: Horton

From reading Shirleys book I expected that the team didn't speak with each other much nowadays ... Horton makes it sound like the do quite a bit.

    Re: Horton

I was at that game in Lawrence when he hit that bomb. Game was awsome from start to finish. Bought SRO tickets bout 1/2 hr. before the game started and snuck into the KU student section behind the basket on the visitors side. Probably row 8 or so. Didn't do much cheering until about 30 seconds left in the game. We didn't want to get booted from those seats!

Thanks for the link. Horton is probably underappreciated from those championship teams, but he was solid.

Great article, but it made me do bad things...I looked up the MSU ISU regional final game on youtube. Don't do it, it is just so heartbreaking!

Re: Catching Up With: Kantrail Horton

Kantrail was one of my favorite people in college. He was one of the few guys I knew coming into Iowa State as we had played against each other in AAU and baseball since we were little. That dude was a riot...

When he decided he was going from Point A to Point B, he could not be stopped. Not too many like him.

I was thinking the same thing but if you read Shirley's book he doesn't mention Horton once. Horton must have been the glue for that team. Keeping some egoes in check and including others. Good article.

Re: Catching Up With: Kantrail Horton

He was one fun player to watch. Nurse could hit 3 pointers more consistently ,but Kantrail could hit them further out. I don't know how many times he threw up bombs 10 feet away from the 3 point line and would nail them.

He had a great attitude back then and sounds like he still does. Hope he does well.

Re: Catching Up With: Kantrail Horton

The word that comes to mind when I think about Kantrail is: Poise.

I never felt nervous when he had the ball. He was always under control, and oozed a quiet confidence.

    A great Cyclone.

i miss those days. he was one of my favorite players to watch (right behind JC Holloway (sp?)

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams
