    Re: DMR Hanrahan Article

I thought this part was interesting:
So St. Claire had Hanrahan go to his hotel room on the road and turn the volume up on the television. Then Hanrahan would alternate his focus on a different object in the room, from the TV to perhaps a drinking glass on a counter.
It is impressive how pitching coaches can pick up on such minute details. It seems that at the MLB level the minute details make all the difference.

There was another good article to this point. It said that St. Claire would come out to talk to Joel, put his hand on his chest, and his heart would be going 100 miles a minute...

There are a couple of great books out there, especially if any of you have teenagers that play, by Harvey Dorfman. Then Mental Game of Baseball and the Mental ABC's of Pitching. This drill and a number of others are in there....

    Re: DMR Hanrahan Article

Some great new news. The official release hasn't come out yet, but Joel was nominated for the Roberto Clemente Man of the Year Award. He is beleived to be the first rookie nominated. Last year, MLB began fan voting as another factor in the vote, so hopefully we can start a grass roots voting campaign here when it starts up.

Since 1972, Major League Baseball annually has presented an award (originally known as The Commissioner's Award) which recognizes the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team.
In 1973, following the tragic death of Roberto Clemente, the award was re-named to honor the man whose spirit and goodwill always will be remembered. The award recognizes those individuals who truly understand the value of helping others. A panel of baseball dignitaries, including Vera Clemente and Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig, annually selects a winner from a list of 30 nominees, one from each Major League Baseball club. This year, the MLB.com fan ballot winner will be tallied as one vote among those cast by the special selection panel. Past winners include Al Leiter, Tony Gwynn, Sammy Sosa, Willie Mays, Lou Brock, Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Kirby Puckett.

That is terrific news!! I will be sure to cast my vote for Joel. I believe he did some nice things for the flood and tornado efforts.

By the way, I was listening to the game on the radio Sunday and was happy to see Joel get in the game while you were there. He had pitched two innings Thursday night in Philly so I figured he wouldn't get in on Friday. And Saturday there wasn't a situation for him to get in the game.
