    Re: Eustachy is on KXNO

I felt awkward listening to that whole monologue about his job now and his time at ISU. He opened up a lot more than I probably would have on a radio show... I still can't figure out how to take his comments about "the Iowa State job".

Eustachy's coming back later, but Chizik is on next!

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

I didn't really like those comments about the ISU either. We all know its a harder job than the major players, but to nicely put blame on loosing his marriage, boys etc to get those banners in the ceiling seemed harsh too me. I would almost bet if he didn't have "the problem" he would still be coaching here.

If all these mid major teams are getting it done then ISU should have no problems...especially with the Practice facility in the works and one of the best venues in the country in a very tough conference.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but the job didn't cost him that stuff at all. His drinking took care of that. Maybe he can say that his drinking was a response to the pressure of the job, but many, many men cope with stressful jobs without drinking to that extent.

I agree w/ all this. "Blood, sweat, and tears" for the ceiling banners.

You know whats funny. He has probably been on Local Radio more times after the ISU job than during. I am glad he is getting his life back though.
I did think the comment about his ex wife was funny.
Paraphrasing: Talking about basketball in the south......
He said "this sport has made many of us millionaires. Including my Ex-Wife."

Wow... it sounds like deep down, he still hasn't figured out that he was/is the problem. That doesn't bode well for his future...

Isn't that a pretty important part of being an alcoholic? These guys lose marriages, jobs, careers, and everything else, and still don't get it (the ones that don't work their way through it, that is).

I tend to lose my cell phone when I drink. Would that put me in this category?

I was thinking of more important things then cell phones, life-changing things.

Then again, I don't have a cell phone, so maybe I don't understand their importance

    Re: Eustachy is on KXNO

In hindsight the firing probably was the wakeup call he needed but at the time I was frustrated with ISU just tossing him to the curb and showing no compassion to help him get the help he needed. He didn't violate any NCAA rules or laws.

Not trying to start this whole debate up again because it has been beat to death but can you look at the mess we have dealt with today and say that had we put Larry on a suspension, say for 1 year to prove he had taken care of his alchohol problems then reinstated him that we'd be in the same situation we are in now with the revolving door of players? I know some will say that he had a revolving door too but the difference was he still won despite that while we haven't been able to do much other than a few moments under Morgan.

He would have coached Blalock and Stinson and I wonder how differently that might have turned out with a disciplined coach who would have taught them to play the right way and sat them down when they got out of control. LE had his moment with Tinsley at the start when he benched JT for stretches because of his out of control play and in the end that worked out pretty well. We had a pretty good group of players coming in for Morgan's 1st season and with Morgan still as the recruiting assistant who knows what kind of success we possibly could have had because we know that LE was one of the best at getting the most out of the hand he was dealt and was a great gameday coach. Maybe not quite the recruiter but again he has assistants that helped make up for that.

    Re: Eustachy is on KXNO

While I appreciate what LE did at ISU, please don't rewrite history. His last couple years, the program was a mess. He ran it into the ground. Players leaving left and right, he never had a team more than 8 players deep. Ever. He was out of control around town and people knew this. He was a horrible role model for kids and a very poor leader. ISU is still trying to get on its feet with its basketball program after the long term damage he did.

Unless you take ownership of your own mistakes, you will never turn things around. Sounds like he is making himself out to be the victim. If he is such an amazing coach, why isn't he having any success at all where he is?

He went 25-30, (8-24) in his last two years in Ames, and as much as people don't want to admit it plummetting ticket sales and poor teams those last two years got him fired just as much as the embarrassment of the issues that were brought up when he was let go.

I'd love to hang out with larry but I don't know if I'd want to have him be the coach of our basketball team, and nothing that he has done at Southern Miss really makes me want him back.
