    Re: Footaball Ranking

    From the link:

"The poll developed is notable for one other factoid. At 115th, Iowa State was ranked among the six worst teams in the country and the lowest-ranked team from a Bowl Championship Series conference."

Ouch. I guess no one's setting the bar too high nationally.

Didn't know that many teams played Footaball. Where can I learn the rules?

    Re: Footaball Ranking

That's from whatifsports.com, the simulation site. Here's how they determined the rankings:

WhatIfSports simulated every possible matchup in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) 100 times, and used the winning percentages from those 700,000+ games to deterministically evaluate all teams to come up with the best possible ranking of how every team compares to every other team. The inputs to the simulations are based on a rigorous analysis of each team that first considers strength-of-schedule-adjusted team and player ratings from 2007 and then makes modifications for 2008 based on returning starters (who, where and how many), expected progression of returning players in new roles, depth at each position and incoming recruits and transfers.

That's horrible. There's no way we should be sitting at 115. I think 85ish would be about right.

It's just how Ozzie Guillen (White Sox manager) says "football".

    Re: Footaball Ranking

How do you have a winning percentage of .138 if you score 12.6 pts/game and only give up 1.7 pts/game? I think their system is a little screwy.

That's a typo. If you go to the whatifsports site, you see that the real number for points allowed is supposed to be 31.7.

Dang I was hoping they were predicting that we really have a dominant defense.

When I read the title all I could think is "that's a spicy footaball!"

    Ok I'm done.

The table was wrong. If you look on the full rankings of all teams, we gave up 31.7 pts/game.

I would like to know the last time Miami (FL) was ranked 72nd in any kind of football poll/simulation type of thing.

    Nowhere to go but up!

I fully expect this to be one of the most improved teams in the country this year.

Baylor was 3-9 (no BCS wins) and 0-8, and got blown out by every Big 12 team, and has a new coach. How are they 30 spots ahead of us? We had 3 BCS wins, and played Mizzou and OU pretty damn tough. It's a bunch of BS.

    Re: Football Ranking

No one follows Iowa State football right now. All they see is we lost 4 year starters Meyer and Blythe (will be missed, but we'll be fine without them) and two huge losses on defense, Rubin and Bowen. I think our offense will be a notch or two better than last year...it has to be.

Defense is unknown. But hopefully we are improved at 7 spots which should counter the lost of the DT's and LB's.

The 115th ranked team is going to win 5-6 games this year.
