    Re: Tribune Article On McDonough

    From the article:

Kicking things off: The freshmen with most pressure on them from day one may be kickers Grant Mahoney and Zach Guyer. Mahoney is expected to kick field goals and extra points for the Cyclones. Guyer is expected to handle the kickoffs.

To prepare for the season the duo has spent the summer in Ames, kicking three days a week. And with practice approaching, Mahoney knows he'll spend the next few weeks proving he can help carry the kicking load.

"There is definitely going to be pressure," Mahoney said. "I'm going to try and not let it get to me. They can't expect too much out of us. We are just freshman coming in. But it will be fun to play as freshman. It's definitely a treat."

Sorry deleted probably 10x what I was going to write...all I can put down w/o being an ***...your our kicker and your are expected to make fg/kick far/deep. Have you listened to your team/coaching staff...the bar is set high we can't go below the bar? Freshman always good for a sound bite

I was about to paste in the kicker's quote as well. Looks like others beat me to it.

I don't like the response. I want to hear a confident tone. Not, I hope there isn't too much pressure because we are new.

    Re: Tribune Article On McDonough

I'm not sure I like Mahoney's comments at the end.

Son... this is the Big XII. The staff expects you to work hard, and compete your tail off.

They certainly don't expect your "It will be fun to play, but we're just Freshmen so who cares if we don't perform" attitude.

We've lost two recent Big XII North titles due to our kicker, and the new staff awarded two scholarships to kickers this year. Get it?

I hope I'm just reading that wrong, or it was taken out of context.

    OK, simmering down.....

And that folks is why we signed two kickers. If one flakes we always have the next one!

Statistically, it shouldn't be hard for the kicking game to show improvement -- 26-26 on PATs in 2007; however, only 10-16 on FGs.

Yeah, but it'd be nice if one of them didn't flake before the season even starts.

I'm always impressed with walkons quotes. Chris Campbell knows he's not the star recruit, but he's gonna work hard to get noticed and do all the little things that help a team win. Gotta love guys working their tails off just to, "get noticed."

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

    Re: Tribune Article On McDonough

Is McDonough going to get play time in his first year? Or will he redshirt? He was fairly highly rated and is now at 275. End seems like an area where we need help.

Chizik has been pretty adamant on the whole 'If you're ready to step up and perform, you'll play' deal so I think we'll see Jake out on the field this season. Like you said there isn't a whole lot of depth at DE and I'd love to see him get some experience out there, especially with Kurtis being a senior.
