    All time Cyclone starting 5.

If you could start 5 players, and 5 players only from Cyclone history, who would they be?
I had a hard time picking this one, as their is really 5 guys that are definitely worthy at starting at the 1-5, (Stevens, Grayer, Hoiberg, Thompson, Tinsley.) I would definitely start Fizer and Vic Alexander at the 4 and the 5. This is what I finally settled on:
1-Gary Thompson-A combo guard before a combo guard existed
    2. Barry Stevens-Need I say more?
    3. Jeff Grayer-A scorer
    4. Marcus Fizer-Tough, great scorer, rebounder.
    5. Vic Alexander-That big man in the middle, who can dominate in the paint.

    I'd replace Vic with Cato.

You wouldn't need any scoring from that position with that team, so Cato could be the enforcer down low. I love Vic, but he was soft.

My starting five would be composed of players who combine athletic performance ALONG with character and citizenship that make me proud they went to Iowa State. That leaves Tinsley out...
    Hoiberg
    Thompson
    Grayer
    Stevens
    Don Smith - Zaid Abdul-Aziz

I also considered Don Smith, and Cato for that position, but I chose Alexander because, in his book, Johnny Orr absolutely loves Alexander, and Johnny has a good picture of stuff like that.

Got to pick Cato over Vic. Faster, more dominant. Jeff Hornacek over Barry Stevenons. Barry and Fred Hoiberg as 6th and 7th men.

I think I would take Barry over Jeff any day, JMO.

I figure Cato "saved" about 10-12 ppg with his defense. Add that to his offense (dunks) and he puts up great offense/defense numbers.

Yeah, I definitely see why you would have Cato starting. I take it Vic wasn't a great defensive center, then?

Not so much. Big body, but not very hard-nosed. Great offensively, though.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

Ya know, looking back on the stats, Vic had pretty good rebounding numbers, but I'm thinking that may be partly due to the number of shots per game going up in the Orr era.

I remember getting an autograph from Vic when I was a kid. He seemed simply gigantic to me, and he was somehow holding a pop can IN HIS MOUTH. That's one of those crystalline memories from childhood. Good times.

My BAD...it was in the back of my mind but I couldn't spill it out. I'll edit to definately include Skogs.
