    Bambi lives!

So there we were this morning: My wife and I decided to take a walk in a nearby, scenic little German village at 0630, before anyone was awake.

My wife asked if we could park way out by the road, and I was just a little grumpy, because I have a bit of a cold and I was, well, just a little grumpy.

So, we park the car and are walking the kilometer into town, when suddenly, we saw a Roe deer standing in the pasture, just outside the tree line, eating grass. We stop and watch it eat, when suddenly we see movement near the woodline, and the cutest, tiniest baby deer comes bounding out of the woods, and jumps circles around mama for a few moments. We start moving toward them, and suddenly mama smells/hears/sees us, and she goes full alert, and then springs off.

Baby isn't quite on the ball, so he peers over in my direction until mama "barks" and then he decides to go scampering after her.

Now, Roe deer are very small deer. About the size of a medium sized dog, and the babies are miniscule, so they are cuter than they have any reason to be.

So, we walk around this town, and are on the way back to the car, when what do we see, but this little baby deer, again, all by himself, greedily eating grass. We get to within 30 or so yards of him (We're on a road with markers every 50 yards, so it's easy to tell distance) before he thinks to look up and freaks out because we are right on top of him and goes tearing across the field, because unbeknownst to him, he has come completely across the field to the road as he was eating.

Overall, it was an awesome start to the day, and my wife managed to rub in the fact that I didn't want to park all the way out in the countryside...

    Re: Bambi lives!

You saw bambi? Really? Because the last time I saw Bambi he was lying in a ditch after running out in front of my car that was doing 45 MPH (down from 60) trying to catch mommy and brother who had just run across the road (hence the slowing down)...

And I do mean bambi. Still had spots on his back and everything... I had to drive past the thing for a week too before someone did something with him

Glad to see he's still alive...

Nice story, at least the first one.

I almost hit a deer myself on Thursday driving a school bus transporting kids as part of my day camp I direct out here in Colorado. I can imagine the stories parents would have heard that afternoon if I had actually hit it.
