    Mediacom is worthless

Since getting mediacom a couple months ago, we have literally not gone an entire two week period without losing service. Is anyone else in Cedar Rapids having issues?

Ganted, Mediacom is indeed worthless...but for many reasons. Is the flooding problems in CR contributing to these outages? If so, perhaps you should cut them a little break here.

Other than losing power the other night I haven't lost Mediacom's phone, internet or tv service in a long, long time.

    Re: Mediacom is worthless

Dropped Mediacom in Des Moines several years ago and have never looked back. Qwest DSL has been a TON more reliable for nearly 1/2 the price and my Dish Network a lot better bang for my buck even though I technically pay more for TV now since I upgraded from basic cable to a top tier package with DVR. Same kind of setup with Mediacom though would have cost me more though.

The biggest bonus: both providers without a doubt blow Mediacom away with their customer service when you do have to call them for something. With mediacom that was almost every month because service would go out for extended periods of time which meant holding on the telephone for over 30 minutes then being told you will need to be there between 12-5pm in 3 days for someone to come out because it is "on your end" only to have your service finally come back on shortly after you called in. Last time I had to call Qwest got right through, they told me there was an outage in my area and put me on a call back list which sent an automated call to my house once service was restored so I knew I could try my internet again.

    Re: Mediacom is worthless

I have a guy that works with me that says his internet speed isn't what it should be and it goes out once awhile at certian times. I keep asking him "did you call?" He says "no".
I guess if were me I would call and give them a chance to correct it and if it doesn't get fixed i would be more stern the 2nd time. If then it keeps happening I would tell them they have 'X" amount of time to get it fixed or I am moving on to Qwest. But again...I have never had problems with them. I must be really lucky or something? If I was without Internet for 4 hours all the time I would be looking for anwsers. I might even go down to Ingersoll and throw some crap around until I get an anwser. :)

    Re: Mediacom is worthless

I have several examples of Dish and Direct having Horrible customer service. One guy I know was so frustrated with direct he spent hours on the phone and the actual Customer service Rep said they had screwed up so bad and that they were embarrassed to work there.
I think you have to think of it like this....
There really isn't good customer service "as a whole" out there anymore.

    Re: Mediacom is worthless

I'm not a big fan of their rate structure and the way stick it to you for any extra service or hook up.

In spite of that, I've been a customer for 10 years up here in Waterloo and I can't remember if I've ever lost service. Once in a while a local t.v. channel will disappear, but that has more to do with the local station then them.

I've got plenty of friends who have dishes and seems like they always loose service when it rains or snows heavy. They also seem to have to fiddle with the dish periodically.

    Re: Mediacom is worthless

We have Qwest for land line and Mediacom for Internet and cable. Based on our terrible experiences with slow I-net connection speed via Qwest (and their alarmingly non-customer care by technicians (they cut through the buried cable line in our yard when trenching for a new line) we would never trust Qwest with online service.

    Re: Mediacom is worthless

    Well,

when we moved in we had to get a new cable buried. the cable installer trampled and killed two of my fiance's rose bushes. magically one of my tv's that has never malfunctioned doesn't work now (of course that isn't their fault). it has been a complete debacle. and that is all on top of the cable not working half the time. i have called plenty of times, they send some guy out in a ratty tee shirt, he is here for an hour, and it still doesn't work. we will be switching to dish network soon.

I think it must really depend on what tech you get. My parents had a very nice direct tv guy that came out to there house and my friend had some guy from New York that was not nice and was worthless. Good luck to you. Nothing worse than paying for service that you are not getting.

I would agree with this. I had a horrible time when I initially got Qwest internet. The people in the Ames mall I bought stuff through just sell, they don't service. All of their usual customer service numbers go to Asia somewhere. I called about 4 different numbers and every time I got some guy halfway across the world who wanted to go through the same stupid ******* checklist I had been through with the first guy. They could not deviate from it despite my contentions that I had just done that several times, and were pretty much completely worthless. I finally managed to find a phone number for a place is Des Moines and finally got a hold of an American who (a) could think without a checklist, and (b) was actually able to help.
