Any suggestions for installing a car in-dash radio?

I have a 1993 Honda Civic, and someone stole the in-dash CD-player/radio right out of the car one night when I forgot to lock the doors. I bought a new one, and a friend thought he could help me get it working, but he couldnīt get the sound working with the speakers. It is possible that they stole something else that is keeping it from working, I really have no idea -- I know absolutely nothing about cars. (The speakers are there, I know that much)

Anyway, I live in Omaha, and was wondering if anyone could suggest someplace I could take the car to have the installation of the player/radio finished. I have this feeling, though, that any place specializing in car-audio is going to want to install their in-dash player/radio.

It couldn't hurt to ask the car audio specialists if they'd install your radio. I'll be they'd do it, but they might charge almost as much as one of their cheap radios to do it.

I think a general mechanic could do it. A radio isn't very hard to install. Otherwise, I bet an automotive wiring specialist could do it.

If you hadn't bought it already I'd suggest you go to a junk yard. You could probably find a factory original radio in a junker real cheap. By pulling it out, you might figure out how to put it into your car too.

Were they nice enough to unplug it instead of cutting the wires when they stole it? If so, then it's only a matter of getting the correct connector plug. if they cut them, it's going to cost some money. You'll need the wiring schematic to figure out which wires are which. Although painfully expensive, the dealership may be your best bet in that scenario. Otherwise, might I suggest an ipod with earphones???

A buddy of mine was just telling me the other day how he heard of this car audio place that was installing the high end stuff into client's cars and then a week later going to their houses and ripping it off again. That way they could sell the same stuff several times and make some good profit.

I've heard of that many times before, but I don't think it's the company doing it, it's the installers. I've even heard this happen with a custom audio-video installation in a home, where the equipment was pretty much in a hidden location. They guy that installed it, stole it and got caught.
