    Catch 22 is real

So, I'm a semi-retired Army Officer, who works as a civilian contractor for the US Army.

The Army IT people just made it so all the different e-mail accounts can be accessed from one another. In other words, your portable Army account can be accessed from your Outlook account.

Problem is; I have one account as a semi-retired Officer, and one account as a civilian contractor, and the new system automatically rolls them all together, so my signature line comes out as an Army Officer.

So, one IT guy e-mails me to tell me it is a violation of regulations and Federal Law to send out e-mails as an Army Officer when I am acting as a civilian contractor, and the other IT guy keeps deleting my civilian contractor information, because you can only have one set of credentials in the system.

Both of them are sending me threatening e-mails, which directly contradict each other.

I am utterly powerless to change it. How cool is that?

Ummm... no. Actually, they work in two entirely separate, disassociated organizations that have not relation to each other. At all.

And some people want our government to run health care, retirement, the stock market, banks, etc....

The vast majority of contractors are Retired, Active Reserve or Inactive Reserve. I just transitioned from Active Reserve to Inactive Reserve on 1 July.

So I am in the shadowland between Retired and Active Reserve. It keeps me eligible to be mobilized in time of war, but takes away my obligation to attend monthly drills. I am obligated to attend Annual Training, though.

Ah, good to know the US Army is still run by the federal government. Thank God I work in the private sector where we just don't put up with crap like that!

I think you can specify different signatures for different accounts in Outlook.

Although I would just drop the signature.

You could... until they changed the system last week. Part of the reason they did that was to "standardize" the system, because as everyone knows "standard" is "better!"

In the military it does not work that way unless you want killed by your boss. At least in the Marines it works that way.

Which program do you use to read and send email (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express, or web browser etc.)?
