Would a two QB system work?

It was done in the Wayne Stanley-Buddy Hardeman days at Iowa State. In fact, Arnaud-Bates almost mirror those guys. Would it work for Chizik to go with the hot hand? I'm not sure on this one.

Re: Would a two QB system work?

I think it could work to a degree, but I think regardless that we have enough talent at QB that both need to be on the field as much as possible. I'd like to see Bates play WR as much as possible since that would create as good of WR spread as we've probably ever had. If Arnaud can get in the rhythm early and be consistent, we should have a fairly potent passing game.

I can guarantee though that you won't see a lot of trick plays with a QB tandem under Chizik. He might break out a couple but I know they aren't his favorite weapon.

I agree. I'm really hoping AA can win the job so PB can play WR. That said, if something were to happen to AA this year, we need PB to be able to play so we can redshirt Tiller, unless he comes in and wows everyone. I'm very excited about JT, and want him around for 2 years after Bates and Arnaud are done, if he doesn't beat them out before then.

Re: Would a two QB system work?

I'd be fine with starting Arnaud at QB and Bates at WR knowing that if AA were to go down, you could move PB to QB with still having a great WR lineup and Tiller as a backup QB if God forbid anything were also to happen to PB.

Re: Would a two QB system work?

The only way that a 2 QB system works is if there is a large difference between the playing styles of the two. I think AA and PB are a bit too similar to be effective 1-2 punch. A go to QB needs to be established this year.
Hopefully the one that doesn't get the nod doesn't leave the team.

I think AA could be a wideout on a few trick plays. He's tall and somewhat athletic.

Be eager to see where this goes. Bates looked much better in the Spring game than AA IMO.

It's spring football, basically a glorified practice. Sorry but I don't put a whole lot into 1 day's performance in a pretty much meaningless "game." For all we know AA could come out and just impress the heck out of everyone in fall practice and Bates could fall flat on his face. I hope the later does not happen but have faith that the coaches will go with the guy that gives them the best chances to win.

Completely agree, but Bates was the better man that day.

Re: Would a two QB system work?

I think it can work to an extent. I think we'll see both of them go early in the year to see what they can do in game situations with an eventual starter being chosen. Hopefully the intense competition during practice and games for the spot will make them better.

Re: Would a two QB system work?

I see them spliting time much like Meyer and AA last year with every 3rd possesion or so no matter the situation to start out. But after that I think we will have a solid starter / go to guy by conference play and not see them rotate as much...

Bates for first and second down and AA for third down?

At the moment I'm just insanely pumped we have this "problem" to consider. I haven't been this excited at the beginning of the season since we beat FSU at K.C.
