What would a Chicago tornado be like.

Mega Disasters: Windy City Tornado - MSN Video

ISU prof has a moment of fame on here =)

They talk about the glass that would be spun around from all of the big buildings, crazy scary.

I remember when that tornado hit downtown Miami, you could see the outline in one of the buildings, it was pretty interesting looking...

It'd be a vast improvement to the North Side.

    I really hope that's sarcasm.

I wouldn't say that about any city.

    I love Chicago.

No, it's a TWINS fan yanking a Sox fan's chain. I really couldn't care less about the Cubs...

Re: What would a Chicago tornado be like.

I'm not a big fan at all of these megadisaster shows. They pretty much twist the facts and add drama that's not needed. When the first thing I see is a guy saying, "People don't expect tornados in Chicago, that's what makes them so dangerous." I have to tip my hat to the guy that had the guts to say that. Granted, we aren't Texas, Oklahoma or Kansas, but, during tornado season we expect them quite regularly. This year alone there has been significant property damage as well as loss of life from Tornadoes in the area. Maybe not Downtown, but, definitely in the near vicinity.

Plus, I have to think, when a tornado can plant a piece of straw an inch into a telephone pole, does it really matter at that point if glass is thrown into the mix? Yeah, it's scary, but, quite over dramatized, imo. This is definitely an area where bad storms and extreme weather happen. I don't think any of us have major bunkers that we hunker down in at the first site of a cloud. I also think, to say Tornadoes aren't expected, is quite a stretch.

Most of the high rise buildings here are built to withstand pretty extreme weather. I have no real evidence they were built to withstand tornadoes, I know most of the windows are designed to take winds well over 100 mph.

I know your a Twinkies fan, but the comment was bashing both clubs, and it didn't fit with the Twins in there

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Mythbusters proved that this can't actually happen...

Sorry, I don't watch a lot of mythbusters either. I have spoken with a storm chaser before (Maybe he did lie to me) that said they have seen it happen. They've seen all kinds of crazy stuff stuck into things and that plastic objects are probably the most deadly. Anyways, I'm not trying to argue that point as much as being in a tornado is deadly. Would it matter if it's glass or wood fragments flying at you?
