    Big XII Assistant Coaching salaries

I found this a bit disconcerting as 5 of the ten lowest paid assistant coaches in the Big XII are from Iowa State. Didn't we announce some sort of great assistant coach package when Chizik was hired?? Of course, there is no data from Baylor as they are a private school.

From the Daily Oklahoman via the Big XII blog on espn. ESPN - Big 12

Wow. I really hope we can afford to change that in the near future.

Totally off topic but culturally relevant... All I can think of when I read our defensive backs coach's name is giant shiny balloon animals. (and yes, the z would have to be an s, but still...)

he is one hell of a coach though.. from the few practices i sat in on.. i was very impressed.. being a db.. the way he talkedto the guys and the way he corrected them when they messed up and praised them when they did the right thing.. keeping morale up..

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Just paying these guys more isn't going to make them better. When they win, they deserve a raise.
Koonz is what? 24? maybe 25? I think he's doing fine making 80k in Ames, IA.

not that it is a HUGE difference... but it might possibly be cheaper to live in Ames than in Texas...

Cheaper than Austin probably, but probably not any cheaper than Lubbock or College Station.

Re: Big XII Assistant Coaching salaries

Seems weird to me, when Chizik was hired, ISU supposedly had the 3rd highest paid assistants in the league. I do know that McFarland and Bolt are right up there with the highest-paid guys. We'll see, if they have success, Pollard is going to have to fight to keep some of those assistants. Not a bad situation, though.

Arent most of these coaches in their 2nd or 3rd year as actual coaches? Their pay may have something to do with their experience.

You obviously know more than me, but I figured given the location of College Station being a few hours from Dallas, Austin and Houston that it would be expensive to live there. Interesting.

I was under the same impression. Were we given the wrong information or has the rest of the Big 12 increased that much in less than 2 years?

Bestplaces.net says Ames is 11% more expensive to live in than College Station. Ames is 13% more expensive to live in than Lubbock.

I don't disagree with this. While I'd like to see our staff a bit higher on the list, we do have a fair amount of "up and comers" (hopefully) on our staff - so they're getting paid accordingly for their current resumes.

However, when people want to get testy over all the money the AD is asking the fans to put forth, this is just yet another reason that's being done.

Ames is probably more expensive than Austin as well. If it's not, it's REALLY close.

Remember, no state income tax in Texas... Used to make a huge difference in my paycheck when I lived in Dallas.
