    Dark Knight Sets Weekend Record

I didn't see this posted yet..

ABC News: 'Dark Knight' Sets Weekend Record With $155.34M

Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box-office superheroes.

"The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Wow, this movie is making enough noise in the news that I may have to go see it. Any non-Batman type fans out there see it and really like it??

My curiosity keeps going up and up....

You can count me as one of those. With the last two movies I'm starting to become what you might call a "Batman-type"

And they made that money in just a normal weekend...lots of the box office movies use a 3 or 4 day weekend!

The next record would be reaching 200 million in 8 days or less.

Re: Dark Knight Sets Weekend Record

Are records even worth keeping anymore? It cost 20-25 bucks in iowa for a couple to watch a movie anymore. I am suprised it didn't make $200 million. Although what people get paid in the actual movie is crazy also.

I wonder what a movie like Return of the Jedi, ET, Raiders of the lost Arc would be if you compare it in inflation terms? I swear I went to ET for under $7 which included 2 adults and 3 kids the week it first came out.

I wish they would go by attendance rather than money. That would be a more telling stat.

If they went by attendance and inflation, Gone with the Wind would be #1 for a long time.

    Nice website!
I think I agree with above though. Why don't they use ticket sales for more of a comparison? That way they are not comparing all times of regions inflation plus the fact movies are costing. Some of these films are costing 200-300 million to make anymore.

I wouldn't say I'm a Batman Fan. I never read any of the comic books and was slightly amused at the first Batman with Michael Keaton. When I finally saw Batman Returns on a movie channel, I was blown away. It has a very "real" feeling to it. Not like a lot of other super hero movies. I haven't seen Dark Knight yet, but, Batman returns had me really engrossed. I plan on Seeing Dark Knight as soon as the Buzz lets off a little bit. The only crowds I like are filled with Cyclone fans.

Good call! Batman and Batman Returns are downright great movies. Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are out of this world! There are two other Batman movies....but don't bother.

Re: Dark Knight Sets Weekend Record

Yeah, I really didn't like any of the Batman movies before "Batman Returns." Actually, I thought the first one with Keaton and Nicholson was okay and the rest sucked until "Batman Returns" came out. I saw "The Dark Knight" on Saturday and was completely blown away. Heath Ledger is incredible as the Joker. I'd actually like to see some of those other Batman movies redone now, as they might be watchable.

I will probably see it again, there is just so much going on in some of those scenes that I know I missed some stuff.

Re: Dark Knight Sets Weekend Record

Apparently, people are paying as much as $50 for tickets on websites like eBay and craigslist...

"Dark Knight" tickets hot sellers on eBay - Yahoo! News

I want to see this movie as much as the next guy, but I'm sure as hell not paying $50 to see a sold out movie when I could wait a week or two and see it for regular price.
