    Creative Play Calling...

    Anyone watch Arkansas play tonight?

I'd like to consider myself pretty creative. I'll never be a coach, but every since I was 7 years old, I've been fascinated with football schemes and offensive plays/philosophies. To this day, the number one thing I do when I'm bored (mainly in class) is draw up football plays. However, I've NEVER thought of... taking out the quarterback altogether!? I don't remember Arkansas's running backs name, but they pretty much eliminated the QB position and put that running back in his place. I haven't paid attention to Arkansas in years... does anyone know how long they've been doing that? ...because it's very creative and intriguing...and I like it! :-)

I used to do that all the time in the NCAA games so I could run the option. Stupid computer never could catch on.

It is an old eight/nine man ploy used in many states, which is deceiving t0 a standard look to a defense. We used it in our highschool to just confuse the defensive strategies.

Hows this for creative play calling? Haven't really seen a play like that out of ISU since that night.

    Re: Creative Play Calling...

How did you like Ron Prince and the KSU team's call of a pass on 3rd down against Texas? They made the first down, Texas doesn't get the ball and game is over. Our team would have run up the middle for little or no gain, turned the ball over to Texas and gone into overtime or lost in regulation by letting Texas march down the field against our "prevent defense".

KSU brought the house against Texas and corners played receivers tight. They also attacked all night. Chizak's defense didn't look so great.

Man, as much as I was hoping Texas would win, I was very impressed with the play calling for Kansas State, both on offense and defense !

In his first year Ron Prince knocked off a rank team, and qualified for a bowl! The way to the top of the north is only going to get harder now !

Darren McFadden. You will see him in New York for the Heisman show...he was a backup Qback in high school, and they have had him line up as QB several times in the last few games. Did you see the touchdown pass he completed last night? DMAC is unstoppable!

Ya know...I forgot all about Lane's big run in that game - Seneca kind of overshadowed it with one of his own.

Lane still deserves big props for it.

    Re: Creative Play Calling...

Speaking of creative plays, I'm sure I was the only one that saw this because i don't know of many other West Virginia fans in iowa...however, to straight plays west virgina's line just stayed completly still...didn't move at all. They ran a roll out pass and then like a sweep and they gained 10 yards on both because the defense had no clue what was going on

For anyone that doesn't know, in yesterday's game - Flynn did throw a pass back to Meyer for a nice gain. :)

It was only about 15-16 games too late.

    Re: Creative Play Calling...

We ran this play earlier in the year and I think Flynn was getting way to much pressure.

We also ran it last year at Nebraska, got a first down in OT because of a pass interference on the play.

While I think we should have done more with that type of stuff having Flynn as a former QB - lets not paint a picture that we never did anything creative.

When you have an offensive line that can't block a normal passing play or running plays - it's even tougher to get protection for the trick plays.

this is the play i've been calling for all year...

doesn't sound like anyone listened to me

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
