    2007 You be the Coach

It is the summer of 2007 and Harrison Barnes wants to verbal to ISU. One stipulation; you accept a verbal from his friend (imo he is also a Div I prospect). Do you accept the two or wait?

I personally think HB was worth 2 ships.

We waited and HB will be headed to UNC. We will end up signing his friend anyway. Oh well.

If a guy is blackmailing you, you do not want him. I am kind of scared with the loving of Barnes going on this board. He's what 16, the way some of you talk about him, you could go to jail.

I agree 100%. I don't care if Harrison Barnes is the next Michael Jordan- a coach can't allow a student athlete to set conditions as mentioned by the original poster for acceptance of a scholarship.

    1) At this point all HB can do is verbally commit to ISU. We all know how binding verbal committments are.

    2) How did the Wayne Morgan situation pan out where BVD allowed a coach & his recruits drive the coaching selection process?

I'd love to have a player of HB's ability at ISU- but the decision impacts his life & not mine. If HB doesn't come to Ames that IS NOT an indictment against G-Mac. If I were a stud HS BB player & life long Cyclone fan and had the following 2 opportunities presented to me:

    1) Stay at home, become a Cyclone or
    2) Go to a UNC, UCLA, Duke, etc

I can come up with alot of reasons for leaving home. At 18-22 it's important to have varied life experiences & living in another state would be exciting. As good a school as ISU is- the schools mentioned above are elite academic schools. Lastly, the opportunity to play for a basketball program that competes for national championships is very attractive.

Re: 2007 You be the Coach

If a player were to indicate that they wanted to play ball at the same school as a friend, I do not see that as unusual, or as blackmail. Also, if this were the case, I doubt that UNC would offer both, so why just ask ISU to do so? If the other player is D1 material, I take both.

We ended up in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament losing to the eventual national champions and had an exciting team to watch.

Re: 2007 You be the Coach

From what I seen or heard it would be out of Harrison's character to say such a thing. I think this thread is a hypothetical. That's the beauty of message boards, you can say anything and it's believable.

Also, as far as showing Harrison love. If you are scared, you should do a search on his name for the elite schools that have offered. Their love is scary also.
