Good nuggets from the pre-game tailgate in Boulder

Had the privilege of speaking with a number of parents and people associated with ISU athletics...

    Blythe's Parents

As I noted in a separate thread, Todd really, really wants to play. The doctors won't clear him as his spleen is still too large. His dad got a bit emotional when talking about that. Also, he stated there's no chance Todd won't be a Cyclone next year. The only way he'd leave was if he was guaranteed a 1st or 2nd round spot - his dad said that's not happening - so he'll be in Ames. He stated it's been a very emotional couple weeks with the coaching situation - lots of tears, etc.

    Mr. Pollard & Mr. Geoffrey

Pollard looked a bit wore out but still had a smile on his face. I talked to him about the change, said I understood why he made the move and that it must have been tough on him. Pollard got a bit misty and said "this was far different from the basketball move I made - it was much tougher". I congratulated him on the basketball win from last night - his eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store. He's real proud of the basketball program right now. Loves Taylor - said he's the best player we got as long as we can keep him focused on grades. Pollard said if the football situation does not turn out well, he could be next on the hot seat.

EDIT: Forgot to put in our conversation about the possible new football coach.

I said, "I've been hearing of the rumored potential coaches, sounds like some nice options there".

He smiled and said "You really shouldn't pay much attention to rumors" and winked.

I then said "Well, you did take a left turn when we thought you were turning right with the basketball situation!" He laughed.

JP keeps his cards close to his chest, I like that about him. Not only does he do that, he likes to put deception out there as well, to make people think he's going one way while the entire time, going the other. I love that about him. Not sure if that's what is going on here, but it somewhat seems like it.

Briefly spoke with President Geoffrey, told him under no terms was he allowed to let Pollard leave Ames - ever. :) He's a treat to talk to and thanked us for making the trip.

    Jeff Johnson

He's a character, that's for sure. And a die-hard Cyclone. Jokingly asked him if he'd be leading us in cheers on the field - sadly no. He did state though, we started losing when he became the on-field cheerleader - joked that maybe he's to blame. In the stands at the game, Johnson led the cheers - no surprise. Sat just a few seats away from him - at least we had fun in the stands.

I briefly talked to Stephenson's parents too and a few others - hard to remember all of them. Was a blast at the Millennium Harvest Hotel. I highly recommend going to the next ISU-CU game!

We took about 500 photos today of the pre-game warm-ups and during the game photos. Will post some in the gallery eventually.

Were you wearing a No. 7 uni today? I think I sat right in front of you - backwards gray-ish blue ISU cap w/ a gray hoodie. Haha!

I looked for you at the pregame. Didn't see you. But my wife and I were about 3 rows back of Jeff Johnson at the game. So we must have been close to each other.

At the tailgate, we sat near the TV screen they had, on the backside of the bar shack. We wondered around some, but mostly to chat with some of the folks we normally don't get a chance to rub shoulders with. :)

The wife had a yellow ISU sweatshirt on and I had a #7 jersey and a red ISU stocking cap. And I was connected to my camera the whole day.

Well, sorry we missed you guys. I got a great picture of me and Jamie Pollard that the wife took. We chatted some. He seems like a great guy.

ISUFan22, after reading your various posts today, I've come to the conclusion that you have a "Man Crush" on JP. Hope your wife doesn't mind.

Jeff Johnson is awesome. He's a great ambassador for the Alumni. I knew him well when I was in school, and he came by to say hi at the tailgate, and to meet our new son. He held him, and fed him his lunch and was geniunely excited about the new cyclone. Also, toward the end of the 4th quarter, he asked if he could hold him again and did so until the game was over.

Re: Good nuggets from the pre-game tailgate in Boulder

I love away games and chatting with the parents and such. One of my most recent great memories was at the Iowa game this year waiting for the team bus. A bunch of the team's dads started talking and telling jokes. So I told them about the joke off the CF board I heard with the cow with the Iowa fight song coming out the rear with the punchline that "i've been hearing that song coming out of ******** all my life" It was priceless how hard some of those guys got laughing.

ďAlso, I met a lot of Iowa State fans and I donít want to leave any of that behind.Ē - DARIUS DARKS on Staying a CLONE!!!

Too funny, we sat right behind ya. And I can't blame Jeff for stealing your boy - he was adorable!

Before the game on the sideline I was standing behind Blythe in the front row and he told a couple people "I feel fine." He must not have played because of the trainers, but I hope to see him Saturday, we're going to need him to have a chance.

Of course he feels fine, a person can feel just great with an enlarged spleen.

However, you get hit right with an enlarged spleen and you won't feel fine any longer.

As the team was coming out of the locker room, Blythe turned around and looked at DeAndre Jackson on his crutches and said with a smile "man, would you hurry up!"
