What's up with Bees in the US?

For the last couple of years, the subject of all the bees in the world dying and fruit basically becoming extinct has periodically been hammered in the media.

But this summer, we have more bees than I have ever seen, in Germany at least. Does anyone know what has happened to the mass extinction of bees?

I did a quick search, and nothing new has been reported since 2006 or so. Anyone have the skinny on what's going on with bees?

I have not seen a single bee this year. Odd.

Re: What's up with Bees in the US?

The last thing I read on the issue (a year ago) was that they were still in mass extinction. It seems that there are a lot less bees around now then when I was a kid. If they are dying in mass, is there really any way to stop it? I would blame flys or Canada for it.

Do we use more chemicals in the US?

I saw quite a few bees in Canada this summer. Perhaps they moved up north.

Re: What's up with Bees in the US?

I have holly trees in my front yard. For the first three years I lived in the house, those trees would be thick with buzzing bees in the spring when the trees were blossoming, and they would be full of nice red berries come Christmas time. The loud buzzing of the bees was actually kind of spooky.

Last year, just a few bees came around, and I didn't get many berries . This spring was the same...very few bees, and I again have very few berries.

Eating's overrated, I'll just supplement my diet with Soylent Green, we'll never run out of ingredients for that.

I've heard about this, but have never understood why they're dying. Anybody know? I'm guessing they've got theories, but nothing certain.

Fine, the bees can stay, go tell the leader. Wasps, however, they're out.

Do you keep journals recording your honey/bumble bee sightings?
