Gas, it is just so much easier to get everything started.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

Charcoal it tastes much better and with my charcoal chimeny to start the coals the total time difference is about 5 minutes from what it takes to cook on gas. Just enough time for one more cold one.

Propane for the convenience, charcoal for the flavor. I only have propane at home though.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

I use gas at home. But I think charcoal is better for tailgating when you have the time to sit around and wait for the better flavor.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

Charcoal. Sure it takes a few more minutes but I think the flavor is worth it. There are times when I wish I had gas for the convenience but in the long run I prefer charcoal.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

For me, charcoal. And I don't get the "It takes more time" thing.

You start the charcoal, you go get everything else ready. By the time you've assembled everything else, the coals are ready.

It's more time management and skill than anything. With practice, everything becomes predictable and easy.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

Charcoal. Nothing beats a charcoal grill with some hickory wood to add some good flavor.

I have both on the patio, though. If I'm just cooking something quick and don't want to waste the charcoal, I will use the gas grill. Also, my gas grill has more surface area in case we have people over.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

Gas is more economical, but charcoal tastes better. I use gas most of the time, but I start up the charcoal for those special days.

    Re: Charcoal or gas?

Charcoal at home, usually gas at tailgate for the conveinence unless we do ribs which then we bring a small charcoal grill out. I just bought some of those Kingsford hickory charcoals that I am going to try once my current bag runs out and see if they are any better.
