Poker player from Halbur still alive in WSOP

Jason Riesenberg from Halbur (near Carroll), wearing a Texas hat , is still alive in the World Series of Poker Main Event. There are currently 21 players remaining. They will play today until the final table (nine players) and that will be held in November. Too bad the dude isn't wearing a brand new Nike I-State cap.

    Cute fella! ;-)

I actually grew up in that area, and went to HS with several Reisenbergs. Don't recognize him, though...

ps. what's the point of waiting to play the Final Table til November? I think that's kind of a crock. I mean, when you're playing well or feeling "hot", you want to continue. I would imagine if you made that final table, you'd want to finish it then. Who knows which way your luck will be going by November?

Re: Poker player from Halbur still alive in WSOP

I was going to start a thread about this. He actually lives with my best friend from Coon Rapids in a house they bought together in Vegas. They both are poker dealers at the Wynn casino. The stupid thing is for this years World Series of Poker is that the final table wont be played until November and it will air live on ESPN until a winner is crowned. That is proof that TV ratings are twisted. Could you imagine playing the Super Bowl 4 months after the AFC and NFC championship game???

I believe ESPN will be playing all of their episodes of the opening rounds, followed by the final table broadcast live...so it could take forever and be really boring or take a relatively short time at the final table and be awesome live.

Re: Poker player from Halbur still alive in WSOP

A couple of my friends from Lincoln bought into the tourney. One of them topped out at 107th I think? He recieved just over $40,000... Of course this is chump change compared to what he makes playing it online.

The other friend went out early, but one of his friends went out pretty late, I just know he made over $100,000. Pretty impressive money for a bunch of kids.

Looks like Reisenberg just went out in 18th place. Took home over $340K. Not a bad payday for a week's work!

Re: Poker player from Halbur still alive in WSOP

This is the 2nd year that 25-year-old Jason Riesenberg has played in the World Series of Poker. Born in Carroll, Iowa, but currently residing in Las Vegas, NV, the former student makes his living playing cards. Currently single, Riesenberg goes by the nickname "J-Ball" and learned to player poker online and with the help of friends. With a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Iowa State University, Riesenberg has been playing poker for about four-and-a-half years and won the $2,000 buy-in PCA tournament in the Bahamas earlier this year. Riesenberg enjoys golfing and hunting in his free time and also currently has a brother serving in Iraq.

I think the only advantage of waiting till November is the "face time" the players will get for commercials and etc. I too wish they would just play it out now.

There will be a huge bidding war among the online site to have the players wear logos.
These endorsements could easily reach 6 figures per player.

Re: Poker player from Halbur still alive in WSOP

You guys are spot on about the time to gain endorsements, etc.

The final table in November is better for the players as many of them will make more money off the table because of the change.

It's also good for poker. People can talk about "who will win?" as opposed to "who won" between now and then.

The final table will still be edited. It will be broadcast 'same day, tape delay' to ensure it will fit inside their time window.
