That is pretty amazing, I heard Marty & Miller talking to their coach the other day. I'm not really interested in high school baseball, but I may try to check out a game sometime. The regular season is over, and it's tournament time, right? Where/when is the state tournament?

Johnston next plays Wednesday (7/16) in the substate final against either DM Roosevelt or Ames.

The Class 4A state tournament begins Wednesday (7/23) at Principal Park. Johnston would easily be the #1 seed, so they would play at noon. Semifinal game would be Friday (7/25) at 6:00, with the championship game Saturday (7/26) at 8:00.

Johnston would be the first 4A team (since the four-division split in 1981) to finish a season undefeated. Wilton is the only other team to do so (42-0, Class 2A, 2005). Kee went 47-0 in 1973 (Class 1A, two-class system), and a handful of others went unbeaten in the one-class system from 1946-72.
(The above paragraph reflects only the summer season.)

    Re: johnston baseball

Johnston plays Ankeny, a conference opponent, in today's semi final game at 6pm. Johnston has outscored Ankeny 19-2 in four games this year, but this game has the making for one of the best at the tournament.

Not saying that Burlington doesn't deserve the credit, but I think that if SE Polk would have beat them, it would have been cool to have an all CIML semi final. I can't wait to watch the second game tonight as well. Marshalltown is on a tear the past three weeks, and is practically unbeatable right now IMO.

On a different side note, Urbandale won the title last year. The same group of kids that won the Senior League World Series in 2005. There is one player, Darin Davis, from the same Senior League team that plays for Johnston.

Wow, what a game last night against Ankeny, as Johnston won 7-5. Ankeny had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning, and did not score. It should be quite the matchup tonight against Marshalltown, as they are playing awesome ball, and feature one of the better players in the state in Tyler Pyschong.

Just as a side note, Marshalltown had Johnston down 10-3 in the fourth when they met here earlier this year before storms stopped the game. Should be a great game.

Yes, I remember, that is what scares me about this game ! On a side note, I am originally from Baxter, and growing up my dad took me to allot of Marshalltown basketball and baseball games, so I was kind of hoping Marshalltown would win.

Johnston scored 2 in the top of the 7th, and won 6-2. I'm proud of my hometown boys, even though I don't know any of them, my kids aren't in school yet, and I'm only dimly aware of where the high school is.
