    Head Hunters

Has anyone used a head hunter to find a new job, if so were they very successful? I ask because I just got royally ****ed during a review at my job where I have made the Owner a lot of money and he was nice enough to give me small raise (where throughout the past few months he has been telling me just wait until annual raises and I will take care of you, when I asked for a more competitive salary).

If so if you have any suggestions on who to use, it would be appreciated.

I have had far and away the most success with Palmer Search Group - both for finding a job and finding potential employees.

However, there are different firms that specialize in different types of positions/industries. Are you in a position where you can share more information about what you're looking for?

When I was unemployed I did not have much luck with The Palmer Group. The bad thing about any of those kind of companies is that they want you to give your two week notice before you can apply for a job with them.

Good luck, I am in the same boat, as I am currently looking for a better opportunity.

I've had good luck with the palmer group. Truthfully the easiest thing to do is upload a resume to monster and career builder. The search firms will find you within a couple days.

If you are IT, I had a great experience with Paragon.

Make the move because otherwise you will just stew. Believe me.

I've never heard of that before with any search firm and will guarantee it's not correct in regards to Palmer or any others I've worked with in the past.

Palmer has certain specialties, but focuses only in the Central Iowa area. It is consistently ranked the #1 recruiting firm in Central Iowa every year. I've been matched to one very good job from there (years ago) but have since referred several people in. I also use the firm for temporary staffing needs and have usually gotten good candidates.

I know it specializes in accounting/finance/IT types of jobs - don't know how the econ/securities piece might fit it. I'd encourage you to at least give them a look if you're interested in the Central Iowa area. I have a contact there that I've used in the past - if you're interested send me a note and I'll get you his name and number.

I've never posted on Monster, but have heard mixed results - although I'm sure the recruiters will find you if you post there.

    Good luck!

If you want to stay in the CR area contact Management Recruiters of Cedar Rapids. They work all industries inside the Corridor market.

    Re: Head Hunters

Robert Half International, located at 801 Grand, specializes in accounting/finance, I believe. I applied with them but found a job on my own before RH was able to start searching.
