Ron Maly says McCarney's firing proves that ISU is a "coaching graveyard"

I just don't understand the attitude of articles like this:
    http://http://wesleyvaclav.blogspot....oodbye-to.html

How many "coaching graveyards" would give a guy like McCarney the chance to do what he did?

It's strange how uneducated some people are.

I'm sure he thought Rutgers was a coaching graveyard at one point too.

    Silly closeminded fools.

Re: Ron Maly says McCarney's firing proves that ISU is a "coaching graveyard"

i wanted to respond and give the guy some numbers to think about but doesn't look like there is a way to comment on his posts. I can't believe how uninformed the media is about ISU. They should be praising ISU and NOT mac. Sure, Mac DID great things but it was because ISU ALLOWED Mac to do great things. The numbers speak for the themselves. Take his name away from the numbers and ask people "if this was your coaches record over 12 years and this was the current season, would you keep him?" How many people are going to say "yes"? How many people are going to say "I would have let him go a long time ago?" What a bunch of BS.

Ron Maly gets his jollies on writing a stupid article and then coming on here and seeing what people have to say about how stupid he is.

Does he come on here? What's his username? I want to tell him what an idiotic, uneducated post that was. There are only a handful of other coaches who were given an opportunity longer than Mac was given. And two of them are Bowden and Paterno. I mean, seriously, how much longer should we have given him? A generation of kids went from babies to Junior High while Mac had his chance. Coaching Graveyard my *****. Sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime.

why worry what this hack has to say, when he also says this about the 2006 UofI football team:

I dont know if he comes on here or not..i would assume most writers do come on message boards to see what kind of response their articles have. This is the only avenue for print media to see a reaction. I think Maly is a moron in this case, and if he does come on here, i think everyone needs to let him know how we feel about it.

ISU fans are driven by passion much like other teams fans, and for him to call out the coaching at ISU as a graveyard is crap. It is people like him that make ISU not successful and people like him that are always trying to put the ISU Community down. For once someone right a positive article about ISU and Ames

Re: Ron Maly says McCarney's firing proves that ISU is a "coaching graveyard"

12 years is an awful long time to be given to die. And Mac "resigned" albeit under pressure, to further the program. I'm sure most coaches would like to be given 12 years to implement their program. The recent setback to ISU football was two consecutive "poor choices" made in our coaching staff. We have never fully recovered from the departure of Steve Loney as our Offensive Coordinator. Brickey and Fine were total disasters and Barney Cotton just wasn't innovative enough. Added to the problems were mistakes made in recruiting back in the Brickey-Fine era which have led us to our O-Line problems today.

I'm thankful that Johnny Majors, Earle Bruce, Jackie Sherrill, Jimmy Johnson, etc. etc. have all been able to visit our graveyard and have some pretty successful times here if I am not mistaken.

Oh, nevermind. I didn't realize he was a ***** hackeye homer POS. This explains everything. No further comment needed. Perhaps they should be worrying about why they pay a coach 2.7 mill for a 6-6 record.

He's definitely a Hawkeye homer. But he masquerades under the mask of being "objective" since he was a long-time reporter for the Des Moines Rag.

This doesn't help in making him seem objective. In fact, quite the opposite.

Re: Ron Maly says McCarney's firing proves that ISU is a "coaching graveyard"

    Well, he would know.

    Ron Maly
    Date of Birth: 09/16/1935
Place of Birth: Cedar Rapids, IA
Education: University of Iowa - Political Science, 1958

Employment: Tribune (Albert Lea, MN) - Sports Editor, 1958-59
Des Moines Register and Tribune - Sports Copy Editor, 1959-65; Sports Reporter, 1965-99

Other: Four-time Iowa Sportswriter of the Year Award Winner

Looks like the guy is the living example of "dead-end"

Speaking of "graveyards", the Des Moines Register for 34 years? Way to reach for the brass ring, Ron.

Good work DaddyMac...proves the point that everyone has that Ron Maly is a slack. Ron peace out brother..you are a terrible writer and the 4 times you were Iowa Sportswriter of the Year were years that people couldnt read.

Re: Ron Maly says McCarney's firing proves that ISU is a "coaching graveyard"

We should remember that Ron Maly was fired from the Register for
plagiarizing an Ames Tribune article about an ISU basketball game. (Rumor has it he never went to the game and wrote his article at home reading the Ames Tribune.) He has always written terrible articles about ISU and we should expect no differrent from a writer not even good enough to work for the register.
