Aspects to the New BB Facility to consider

I just spoke with someone in the program, and asked a few questions that I have seen raised here about the location of the facility, etc.

Of course, in a perfect world, you would want it next to Hilton. But, nearly all of the players are coming to Hilton in cars already. Few, if any, walk to Hilton for practice.

Next, there are hundreds of apartments near the proposed location on Mortensen and S Dakota...and I think some players a) may already live there, or b) will start to live there.

Also, this facility will be open for the players 24/7. I asked the hypothetical, guy wakes up at 1am, can't sleep, wants to go take 300 jumpers, can he swipe his card, turn on the lights and shoot. The answer was 'Absolutely'.

And this is a basketball only facility.

The positives vastly outweigh any negatives.

Not practicing on the floor you play on is becoming more common in major college hoops.

I see this as nothing but good for ISU, and the student athletes will adjust their living quarters to be closer to this...closer than they could be to Hilton, with all of the apartment options out there...it will probably wind up being better in that regard.

Jamie Pollard will be on my show at 3:30 today for a short segment to talk about this, and a quick JTS update.

I definitely like the sound of that.

Re: Aspects to the New BB Facility to consider

I agree that overall there are some positives of it. I have however heard of some concerns by some in the programs that it's not "exactly" what they wanted. It fulfills a lot of the needs but there are some concerns that they hope can be resolved as the design goes forward.

In the end, I think it's something that is going to greatly benefit the programs and help build a more successful on-court product.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Honestly, that is more of a selling point than where it's located. It's not like it's in Boone. This will be just fine, and perhaps even a plus.

One thing I don't like is students seem to find more opportunities for trouble when they move off campus.

I propose a high speed monorail that runs to the new practice facility from Hilton. Maybe Mag-lev.

    Any takers?

If I were a recruit serious about basketball, the ability to practice anytime I wanted would be a real plus.

I also like the monorail idea .

I don't believe players can just do that now and if that's correct, this is a huge win on that issue alone.

Nope but when I was in college, most lived in Freddy Court (north side of campus).
