    Cap City League recap

I went to the last 5 minutes of the second game(clinton, JVB) and all of the third game. (Craig, Dominique, LA.) Here's a quick recap of what I saw.
JVB: Three in a big man's body, will definitely help disperse double teams
Craig: Very athletic shooting, creating off dribble, post moves all improved. Oh yeah, he's got a pretty wicked mohawk too. His jump shot form has definitely improved, but he still often doesn't come even close to squaring up on his jumpers.
Dominique: A real floor leader, he has a really nice mid-range game, but is definitely not a real great outside shooter. He also had several nice passes and drives
Clinton Mann: Very big, is back from his injury. He only played about 2 minutes while I was there.
L.A. : Had 5 blocks, and three goal tends. Always the most athletic player on the floor, is in better shape, but still not great. He has a few nice offensive moves. When he was guarding Brett Heemskerk,he got schooled several times by solid, fundemental post moves. He is a great athlete, and blocker, but isn't great on 1 on 1 d. He did block Craig when Craig went way up for a dunk. He also has a funny shot on his free throws. The potential is most definitely there, but I think his athleticism got him by in high school, and he won't be able to do that in the b12.
Brett Heemskerk: Very impressive. (I know he plays for Drake) Not athletic or a great shooter, but a good defensive player, and the most fundementally sound post player I have seen in a long time. He gets great position, has great footwork, and always is in the right place at the right time. I wish ISU had him...

On other notes, L.A. threw down a windmill in the warm ups, and then Craig threw one down during the game that was absolutely crazy. There was a really impressive kid from NIACC there, who is athletic and a good shooter. Courtney Walters from Iowa Central is a very athletic big, but has a poor attitude, no post moves, and can do nothing with his right hand. Has a big 12 body, but will never be a high major player. I have some pictures I'll add when I get home. PM me with any questions.

Thanks for the recap. I am excited to hear that Clinton Mann is back. Hopefully I will get a chance to see him this weekend.

It certainly seems like a long time since the days of Vroman and Homan.

I agree, that is funny. He hasn't even been walking a long time.

He doesn't realize how little time that 14 years actually is. Good for him. I wish I didn't either.

What do stats have to do with fundamentals?

I was at most of all 3 games (missed about 10 minutes of the 1st and 3rd game), so I thought I'd fill in a few blanks for you.

Mann--He actually played a lot and I had no idea he was ready to be back (to the point where I actually thought it was a mistake when they kept saying the name Mann, but then I looked up and figured out that must be him!). Anyway, I was impressed. He looked pretty good out there for missing a few weeks. He's bigger than I thought and I am hoping he can adapt to the post.

Wes E--He has a good shot. He is small, but has the frame to put on weight and muscle.

Diante--Was the best player on his team tonight. He looked good out there.

Haluska--He looked pretty good out there too. He'll play more than some on here seem to think he should. He's a lot bigger than both Diante and Wes.

I agree, looking up stats is not relevant to his statement.

Haluska will probably start...just pray he doesn't start 0-26 again.

    Re: Cap City League recap

True, but an average stat of 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, 17 ppg would indicate someone capable of getting it done. I would still take a post player that had those stats even if there fundamentals where "off".
Who knows...maybe this kid has seen at lot of old games? I know I just watched Fred Hoiberg beat Hilton in Kansas the other night on Mediacom:)

    Re: Cap City League recap

In my opinion from what I saw in the last 2 games:

    -I thought Mann looked good.
-Vanderbeken had a lot of good hustle tonight,
-Buckley had some nice drives to the basket
-Brackins was good when he went to the post.
-Pomalee was aggressive on defense. He had 5 blocks (most on Brackins).

I left feeling better about our future bigs and post play.
