    Four day work week

As the price of gasoline continues to increase more companies are offering employees a four day work week.

Which would you prefer to work, four long days or the regular 8 to 5 Monday through Friday hours?

    Re: Four day work week

Honestly, I think I would prefer the five day week still, depends on how they structure it.

My position is 3/4 time, but I seem to spend four very long days at work every week already.

    Re: Four day work week

I work something in between, I work a longer M-R, a regular Friday, and get a Friday off.

I don't know if I'd got for a 10 hour day everyday... 9 is probally enough. I'm sure I'd give it at try at first though to see how I really feel about it

Telecommute all the time, that would be my first choice. My company is starting to do that for developers.

That's what I do. It's great for saving gas and all that but it gets kinda lonely

    Re: Four day work week

I'm thinking of switching to 4 long days. An entire day off to fish/golf/do work around the house would be great.

I already do 2-3 12 hour days, in addition to 2-3 8 hour days. I'd take 4 days in a heartbeat!!

I don't know that I could handle 13 year olds for 10 hours a day.

    Re: Four day work week

A long story, and I'll spare everyone the details. Just be careful. What you intend to be a four day 40 hour workweek can easily become a five day 50 hour week - especially if you telecommute. I set up one of the first programs at Principal (IT) to do exactly this - and the poor lady ended up working more than ever.

If your profession is "on call", think about it long and hard.

At least every 3rd week, I work six day weeks, and frequently more often than that. A 50 hour work week would be a decrease for me

    Re: Four day work week

My company offers flexible hours in the summer. Some work 4 days a week, some work 4 and a half. While it would be nice to have that extra time off, the summer is our slow time. I can't imagine sitting around the office for 10 hours a day without anything to do. At least with 5 days a week, I can relax a little and work a little and just enjoy my 2 day weekends.

My employer used to have summer flex hours, but recently discontinued them.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.
