Any talk about Mac moving into the AD

Listening to Mac (thanks KXNO for cutting him off, ughhh), I have to wonder if there isn't some way to move him into the AD, kinda like they did with Douglas.

He might not want to - I know he wants to coach, butwhat a great move for ISU. He just said that his daughter is enrolling at ISU this January. It would keep him close.

He might not have been the best game day football coach. But you show me somebody who says DMac wasn't the best ambassador for ISU, I'll show you somebody who needs the crap kicked out of 'em.

Probably wishful thinking. It would be hard to be around the program you just got relieved of duties from. But what a great deal that would be.

No chance. I wish it was possible but he is a coach...and only wants to be a coach.

I heard, maybe a chance he goes to AD at wisc. if Barry goes to Miami. Great hire if they do it.

Re: Any talk about Mac moving into the AD

How about this? Barry Alverez goes to Miami as AD/coach. Hires DMac as defensive coordinator. and after a year or two moves him up to Head coach. At least that's what Tom Dienhart of The Sporting News says is a possibility. Heres the link:

    Meant for kgreeny,

I was hearing that Alverez goes to Miami, he might be taking Mac with him. Back together again as a coordinator

(Sorry, some day I'm going to figure out how this damn quick reply works)

Re: Any talk about Mac moving into the AD

I read that too (sporting news). I don't see Miami moving Dan to HC, but he would be a great D-coord. I can see Alverez moving to AD and naming his new coach. (like at wisc.) Barry would then be able to keep his staff in place there. Thus Dan would stay at DC. Dan doesn't need the big money anymore, so it would seem like a great job for him at this point in his life.

Re: Any talk about Mac moving into the AD

I think the talk is the Miami AD canning Coker, installing Alverez as HC and Alverez bringing in Mac as DCoord.

I really want Mac to land on his feet. In fact I don't want him to leave ISU. But I would hate to see him go to Miami. Can't stand that school.

I'm not a fan either, but it is a top job. (maybe top 10) Hard to pass on.

Re: Any talk about Mac moving into the AD

I just don't see Barry Alvarez going to Miami. He's already turned down a job there twice (once back in the '90s and again in 2001). He used the threat of the Miami job to get a huge raise at Wisconsin, when he turned down a $1.4 million per year offer from Miami.

That, and his asking price is somewhere around $3 million per year.

You never know, down the road when he stops coaching he may be back.

The other option is Stanford. They're 0-9 this year, 0-6 in the Pac 10 and Bowlsby is the AD.

Re: Any talk about Mac moving into the AD

D-Mac would be a perfect Asst. Head Coach - much like the role Terry Allen filled for us a few years ago. He'd be able to do all the positive type stuff he does now without the pressures of the head coach job.

I just think at ISU anyway, he'd be perfect for it and we'd love to have him in that role.

Too bad I just don't see it happening.

In this sea of negativity, and sadness following the departure of Dan, that made me laugh so hard I nearly wet myself. Miami hiring Mac, now THAT'S funny.
