    Unflawful Termination

ESPN - In grievance, union says Astros terminated Chacon without just cause - MLB

I guess throwing your boss to the ground by the neck isn't grounds for dismissal.

Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you peope do that all the time.

Donald Fehr? should be smacked upside the head. No way to defend what Chacon did.

    .
That is one of my favorite episodes of Sienfeld. If I had some rep left to give out today you would get it.

    Re: Unflawful Termination

I actually talked to a friend that witnessed it. Not only was it totally overblown but it was the GM that was totally out of line. He baited and baited Shawn. The Astros clubhouse is not a pretty place to be. The only reason the union filed is because the Astros are trying to get out of the half a year they still owe him. Contracts in baseball are guaranteed, no getting out of that...

Its too bad if what your friend saw is true, but Chacon should know better.

I'm sure someone will give him a chance to redeem himself, and I hope he does.

I wasn't there so I won't disagree with your statement and thanks for the info.

But since I now work in the real world and not in sports, I can say that if I were to toss my boss to the ground I would be fired and it would be lawful.

If that didn't happen I am sure we will find out about it.

I haven't heard alot of Red Sox players say anything bad about Manny either.

Just play devils advocate here. I did here Chacon's version of things and if it's the way he said it happened I still am not sure if that is excusable. If my boss came to my desk and yelled at me, I asked him to quite, he continued, I asked him again, I wouldn't be able to act like Chacon did. I'd have to walk away and go above him to get the situation resolved.

I understand in College and Pro sports things are complete different however.

What about the fact that he was bad at his job this year?

In Major League Baseball that is not a reason to terminate your contract, just ask Carl Pavano.

And if Chacon had a contract the size of Pavano's, he wouldn't have been let go like that either.

Lets say your boss called you out in the middle of a meeting, got in your face, then pushed you to the side and called you a POS??

It doesn't matter, a guranteed contract is just that, guaranteed. IF the move to the pen had to do with his preformance that would be one thing, but it wasn't, they moved him to save money because he was on pace to hit bonuses on innings and strikeouts that the GM didn't want to pay.
