Try looking at their individual websites and comparing packages and cost if you need anything more specific.

Re: Dish TV vs. Direct TV?

Mainly... DirecTV has more sports... Sunday Ticket, MLB, etc...

As far as HD goes, Direct is slightly ahead right now, but it is actually pretty even... if you don't count local channels.

Re: Dish TV vs. Direct TV?

I've actually had both now... I had Directv for about 3 years and Dish for the last 2...

They are very comparable... Dish has a better DVR, but I think that Direct has gotten MUCH better recently.

You can get your local channels with Dish. Direct you can't.

I get local HD just fine where I'm at.

Re: Dish TV vs. Direct TV?

I am located in an area where I can't get local channels over the air. So it was DISH for me so I can get local channels.

Doesn't DISH make you pay $5/month for locals? Rip off.

They do charge the $5, but Dish has the receiver that controls 2 tv's. Each company charges $5 for additional receivers, so if you have 4 tv's you would only need 2 receives with Dish for an additional $5 and with Direct TV you would need 3 more receivers for an additional $15.

I have Dish so the $5 charge for locals is for all tv's so you don't have to pay that for each receiver. Doing the math you save $5/month with 4 tv's and locals through Dish Network.

Re: Dish TV vs. Direct TV?

I have Dish but have used/lived at places with Direct and I think Dish's program guide and DVR are hands down much more user friendly and easy to use. Both have their pros and cons for programming so depends on what you are looking for. I am not interested in the league pass packages and you can add additional Fox Sports Network regions in a package (I think 5 channels for $5?) if you are just wanting to see certain region sports. You usually get the regional ones like midwest and north anyways if you get a high enough package. I have the Top 250 package and there is always something on plus you get Encore, Fox Movie Channel, AMC, IFC, and a couple others thrown in as part of that package.

This is wrong on many levels. In the DM area you can't get locals in HD yet but you can get locals.

Re: Dish TV vs. Direct TV?

With a $20 antenna you can get every local HD station in HD very easily.

However, DirecTV's newest HD dvr doesn't have an OTA tuner. My friend learned that the hard way.

Correct and it's a $50 add on. Luckily I got one of the old HR20's.
