    Foreigners

So with all of the flooding, I would imagine that intrusive foreign species like the zebra mussel and silver carp are now introduced to more of Iowa's water systems.

What's that going to cost us down the road?

    Re: Foreigners

I saw some flooding where a bunch of carp made it to a low spot in a field and then became land locked when the waters receded so maybe it will even out.....otherwise who cares.

Heard the nitorgen from the farm fields will make huge dead zones in the mussel areas off the coast of Louisiana, just like in flood of 1993. Poor fishermen from LA do not stand a chance while the farmers do well with growing corn.

Anyone who watches the Simpsons knows what happens when you introduce a foreign species into an ecosystem that can't handle them.

There are carp in basically every farm pond and lake already.

Senator Harkins is already requesting free education for the Zebra Muscle and instate tuition for the Silver carp.

I think he's talking about Bighead Carp, which are mostly in the major river systems. They are the big, ugly mothers who jump like crazy. In some rivers boaters have to have a protective screen now since its awfully bad to take a 40 lb. carp in the face going 30 mph in a boat down a river.
