    Cyclones.com article on Taylor

I've always loved watching Mike Taylor at ISU or while he played in the NBDL. AMAZING talent.

    But...

Does anyone else think it's kind of weird how cyclones.com has a big article listing him as an ISU draftee after being kicked off the team?

I just wonder how this stuff looks from the outside looking in.

Does anyone really have a chance with the Clippers?

I was thinking the exact same thing. I completely understand and support the decision to remove him from the team since he admitted himself he didn't hold his end of the bargain. That being said, I hope ISU doesn't start taking great credit for all of this.

Looks like he was on as many teams last night as Darrell Arthur.

In all seriousness though, good luck to Mike!

Personally, I hated watching Taylor play because he was so irratic. How can anyone enjoy watching the most turnover prone player in the country play? I'm serious, he led the nation in turnovers that year...

It's a tough call by the school, but one that may pay dividends down the line. Any time you can claim a kid went from your program to being drafted, you take credit for it. It's a great selling point when recruits walk into the office and see jerseys/photos of guys that played for the Cyclones and then went on to NBA careers. Also, with MT's recent comments about Greg, I don't think you have the risk of him bad mouthing the school the way many kids asked to leave the team would.

If he had gone to another school after ISU, I think they'd be foolish to do so, but his NBA bio lists his school as ISU so might as well take advantage of it.

You're going to get fans from other schools who mock the decision, but 9 times out of 10 their school would do the same thing.

    Re: Cyclones.com article on Taylor

I think it's seems weird too, until you read the article. Since he credits Iowa State for being where he is today, and he and the school still have a good relationship I don't have a problem with it. On the surface, it looks like he went straight from ISU to the D-League. If you know he was kicked off the team, but holds himself accountable and still says great things about our school and our staff, I think that's a pretty amazing thing. I like Mike Taylor the man much more since he's taken ownership of his mistakes and doesn't blame everyone else. It's too easy today to say it wasn't my fault and blame others. I'm proud he was a cyclone.

You never realized that high turnover number had alot to do with him being forced to create everything for our offense that year? Who else was going to create, Mcintosh? Taylor had no choice but to force the issue often and Mcdermott was well aware of that.

I don't understand why so many ISU fans think Taylor sucked because he turned over the ball alot. GMAC, the rest of the Big 12 coaches, and NBA Scouts disagree. You can't just look at stats without taking into account the situation he was in.

    Re: Cyclones.com article on Taylor

I don't see a problem with it. Mike knows he messed up here and he still has great things to say about ISU and coach Mac, even called him after the whole Weasley thing and spoke highly of the program Mac runs. He's right, he may not have been in the position he was in if he hadn't played in the NBDL which probably gave him an edge in camps and workouts since he's already played NBA caliber talent.

    Re: Cyclones.com article on Taylor

Well, ISU MBB does need something to hang their hat on these days. Sadly the best we've got is a former Cyclone drafted that was kicked off the team. It's no knock on Mike, just the facts of where we are at right now.

Good for Mike though, I hope he does well. His style definitely fits into the NBA.
