To get around the smoking ban bill allowing smoking on bar patios (but not restaurant patios), the Iowa Department of Public Health now says if you serve ice at your establishment...then you are considered a restaurant and cannot allow smoking on outdoor patios.
The Public Health Dept. is basically making up laws because a place is considered a bar if they take in more alcohol sales than food sales (or something like that) per Iowa law.
So there will be no smoking OUTDOORS at a bar...yet you can chain smoke all you want at Prairie Meadows. Excellent job, Iowa, excellent job.
Does Prairie Meadows serve ice at their establishment?
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
Bottom line is I could care less. Smokers will complain at first but eventually they'll get over it and people will still frequent the bars. It's not like Iowa is the first place in the country to put a ban on smoking.
That is ridiculous. I'm not for smoking indoors at all but I don't like how they made a law but let the dissenters feel safe that you can still smoke outside on a patio but then they go and change the law about what's considered a restaurant or a bar after the fact.
Is there any counties or cities in Iowa the limit the purchasing of alcohol on Sundays unless you are a restaurant? I know there is in Illinois.
"If you can't hear me, it's because I'm in parentheses."
the bar in my hometown is saying screw it. the owner says he will let people smoke if they want until he gets his first fine. he said he will pay the first one, but after that will get with the regulars to figure out how they want to handle it.
