    Jon Miller's closing comments

Couldn't agree more that the ISU fan base is going to be divided for several years to come and unlike Nebraska or Iowa (when Ferentz was hired over Stoops), I don't think ISU can survive such divisness.

Hell, Bill Callahan is on the verge of winning the Big 12 North and the Nebraska fan base and media is still divided over the Solich firing. (For the record, i'm very pro Bill Callahan)

Winning will take care of a lot of the division, I just know know how long it will take to win.

If the new coach makes a bowl (any bowl) in the first 2 years, and further improves on the 3rd year, I believe that will come to pass.

Not sure I agree with Jon. I would say ISU fans were very divided over Larry. We got over it. Winning and respectability will cure all.

"(when Ferentz was hired over Stoops)"
I love it, hawk fans still think they could have gotten Stoops, they were dreaming.

    Re: Jon Miller's closing comments

aren't most fan bases divided about something? except for the extremely successful programs like ohio state and usc, give me a fan base that isn't divided about something. our brothers to the east are seemingly always divided about their coordinators and more recently their starting qb, for an example. like most of you said though, winning takes care of a lot of the divisiveness. i'm sad to see mac go, but i'm also excited to see where this football program goes.

I think Ferentz was hired after Stoops snubbed Iowa.
Not totally sure, my alcohol intake has effected my memory.

    Re: Jon Miller's closing comments

This is all I've been hearing at work today from both ISU and Iowa fans about how they can't believe that they are forcing Mac out. It's a subject that surely will linger for a few years until (or even if) the new coach can prove he can win.

On Nebraska, Callahan is not a good coach. Have you ever heard some of the dumb things he's said in press conferences or interviews? He makes Bush look like a pro at those sometimes with some of the bizzare things he has said over the years. Keeler has a great collumn on this the other year with some of his priceless statements which I wish I had saved. Also, remember what a mess the Raiders were when he got canned from there? He completely lost that team and he hasn't done any better than Solich so far. They are 7-3 (4-2 Big 12)without a quality win over anyone but Mizzou and are just 2 weeks removed from being thumped by the worst team in the Big 12 south. They are no better than the 4th or 5th best team in the Big 12 right now IMO.

I still don't think he's going to be able to pull off the West Coast Offense at Nebraska either. Nebraska football is pound it up the middle with a strong running game and they had the market cornered for linemen, RB, and option QB's when the did that. Now they have to recruit against the big boys for the top QB's and WR's and if you had your choice of a west coast school, a southern school or Florida school over Nebraska where would you want to go?

    Re: Jon Miller's closing comments

Correct Thunder...Stoops was getting upset that Iowa was not after him hard enough, because Iowa ran a "Search Committee" that consisted of some professors. He had enough and told Iowa see you later. He was there for the taking, but the way BB ran things Stoops jumped at the OU job.

I'm over it but I still cannot let it go how BVD handled that situation. I still would welcome Larry back with open arms but the reality is that would never happen and I am excited about GMac. If it weren't for the mess that Morgan was as a coach following the Larry mess I would have felt better with the decision to get rid of Larry but all I thought about the past 3 years was "we fired a winning coach for this crap?"

    Re: Jon Miller's closing comments

Plain and simple, when you are not winning personal preference comes into play. Winning takes away personal preference. The only thing that will keep us divided is losing. If he doesn't do any better, the argument will always be there. If he does better, there will be no argument. When things don't go well, the grass always looks greener on the other side. Like here in Chicago after Ditka was let go. After the next two coaches all everyone could talk about was getting Ditka back. Yet, he was almost driven out of town by a lot of the fans when his time was up. Amazing how quickly people forget. Myself, I will never forget this year. Ever.

I remember in regards to the Iowa job of Stoops saying he wanted to go somewhere that he could win right away, and not rebuild.

    Re: Jon Miller's closing comments

I agree with Jon Miller, though I think most Clones will jump right on board with the new coach. There certainly won't be any Mac supporters hoping for the new guy to lose so they can say I told you so. What it could affect down the road is Pollard. If the new guy flames out, and Mac moves on to successfully rebuild another program, Pollard will be feeling some serious heat.

I don't think we have to worry about that...

I don't think Mac will get a head coaching job anywhere, so I don't think we need to worry about that.
