    Wireless printing

I'm trying to find my IP address for my printer so I can do wireless printing. Can someone help me out on how I can do this? I think there are a few people that know a little bit about Computers on here.

I'm connected to a wireless network but I can't find my printer. I've done it before by finding the IP of the printer and setting it up as my printer port. But I can't find it for this new printer.

None of the lights work and for some reason my computer isn't recharging from the plug in the wall either, my tv doesn't work and the refrigerator has stopped working too, but why doesn't my printer work?

    Re: Wireless printing

you will need too add a local printer and change the port to TCP/IP, then add your IP address.

    do you know the IP?

I don't. That's all I need to know to set it up.

    Re: Wireless printing

it should be the IP of the print server? or does this printer have a print server in it?

if the first, you might need to reset the print server and start the config from the manual.

the latter, look at the manual for how to view the IP address (could be on the display or when printing the settings, by pressing/holding online?)

    Re: Wireless printing

I just bought a new el cheapo HP all in one that has netowrk capabilities.

If you go through the setup options on the printer on mine there was a network options one. In there you can tell it to print the network details which will give you the ip address then use that to create the TCP/IP port.

    Re: Wireless printing

It's just on the Print Server, how does a complete computer moron find the IP of the print server so I can set up the port?

    Re: Wireless printing

that is very tough. has that server been setup before? you may need to reset it and follow the instructions to setting up as if it was new.

It's a friends so I don't want to reset it, all they did was hook up one of those apple devices that make it wireless and now they print directly to it from their Mac. Sometimes I'm very envious of the Mac users. It would probably be just as easy to move my computer and use the USB cord. It is a laptop so it's not so hard to move 20 feet, but I've had this problem before and wanted to find out how I could solve the problem pretty easily. I've been able to set up printers with their own print servers but never one that is connected with linksys or some other wireless thing-a-majig.

it isn't that hard, but you need to know the IP address. Outside of setting it up or reseting, finding out the IP would be hard.

Pretty much I can do it all except find the IP, I thought some computer geniuses would know of some IP search command prompt or something for me to figure it out. Oh well, I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. Thanks for the help though.

    Re: Wireless printing

be nice to yourself and get a wireless router that has a USB port. Plug the printer in, let the network worry about it and be done.

We use the Apple Airport Extreme. Replaced a NetGear router for this very purpose. Can also share USB harddrive, plus it is MUCH faster.
