    Dan's Legacy

Now that Dan's career as our head caoch is over what kind of memories will you have? Is he on the same level as Orr in ISU history? Taking an ailing program to heights it hadn't seen in years, or in the end will it be the failures of winning North titles that everyone remembers?

With the recent push to immortalize Johnny with a statue outside of Hilton or name the floor after him, will Dan recieve the same respect and appreciation years down the road?

unfortunately I think it will be the inability to get over the hump that sticks out in people's minds for the near term at least. maybe after 10 years has passed and people realize that ISU football was nothing before Dan - and that he truly jumpstarted the program, then people may clamor for a statue or marker of some sort to praise Dan.

    Re: Dan's Legacy

To me he will always be the man that brought ISU to being respected across the country. 12 years ago it was who could ISU get better than Walden, and I think we did ok. I am glad Dan was loyal to us and us to him back after the 2000 season when he was a frequently mentioned coach for other jobs, but with Gene Smith leaving, I would have hated to see what would have happened with a new coach being hired, and wish he would have gotten the next step of Big 12 North champs, and even a Cotton Bowl bid, as he has poured his heart and sweat into Cyclone football, but he didn't, which doesn't make him a failure at all in my eyes. He didn't do too bad for his first head coaching gig...

His ability to spin something horrible (like ISU' stats) into something great! He needs to run for public office.

-Only [insert percentage here] get to go to bowl games.
-ISU is 3-0 against teams that have a ball boy that go an A+ on his high school algebra exam in every other leap year situations.

I think we'll try to get him back 10 years from now. Just like I thought we might try for Tim Floyd when WM was fired.

    Well--whatever.

I guess Earle Bruce didn't do anything

McCarney has a 55-84 record since arriving in Ames in 1995. His conference record is 26-67
