    Best Rhythm Section

Lead Guitar can be waaaaaay over rated. The rythm section (bass & drums) is where it's at. Give 'em their due!

    I'll start the nominating:

Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen Jr. (U2)

Adam & Larry drive most of U2's songs.
The Edge's guitar is just fluff. Great fluff. But still fluff.

    "The bass, the rock,
    The mic, the treble,
    I like my coffee black,
    Just like my metal."

Yeah, it's The Ox and Mooney.

A close second is Jones and Bonham. I'm also a big Butler/Ward fan.

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

Not even close, it's Bonham and Jones, Zeppelin. I agree that Jones isn't as impressive as guys like Flea and Claypool, but Bonham is the best drummer ever hands down.

    re: Best Rhythm Section

    Here ya go...

Count Basie Orchestra, particulalry in the '1950s-60's. Basie revolutionized the role of the rythm section. The rythm section drove the band, and no backing off for soloists. Freddie Green, the rythm guitarist, played huge Gretsch and Stromberg archtops (real rythm guitarists don't play electric...) to project through the sound of the band (and the band sound was big). Drummer and bass were hot.

As far as contemporary folks, I really like Bernie Dresel on the drums, especially when he was paired with Mark Winchester on string bass playing for Brian Setzer Orchestra. I was sad when he left BSO. Bernie drives the band too, as you can see below...
