Is this right? I can't find the DSM article to confirm this. I really don't want to show up at the wrong spot.

ISU Hoops: Brackins, Johnson staying in touch | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

Site change: Sunday's tripleheader in the YMCA-Capital City Basketball League will be played at Valley High School. The normal site, Valley Southwoods, is hosting the Hy-Vee Triathlon Sunday. Games start at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
I hope that's right, because I don't want to show up at the wrong spot either.

Thanks. When I get there I can just ask one of the Valley students for directions to the gym:

"Excuse me, do you know where the gym is?"

"Like oh my gosh, the gym is like totally right over there!"

Yes, this is correct. The triathlon elite men finish at Southwoods and they start at 4:30.

Re: Capital City League Games 6/22

I missed the first half of the first game and the second half of the last game. But here are my observations, for what they are worth.

BP--same as last year. But I am 100% sure he will be starting at the beginning of the year.

    Mann--not there

Thompson--sure played hard on both ends of the floor. Still missed about a dozen 2 footers. I think he actually seemed skinnier than last year.

Pomlee--has a good BB body, but is very raw. With some good coaching he could be a strong contributor in a year or two.

Brackins--played really well in spurts. Hit some nice three pointers. Then he seemed to get annoyed with the refs and kind of took himself out of the game. He is just a little bit bigger than last year.

Buckley--got a slow start probably because he didn't warm up. Hit a couple nice 3 pointers. Made some nice passes. Will need to work on his Defense.

    Vanderbeken--no show

Garrett--still didn't have much luck with his outside shot. Made a few nice penetrations. Seemed to be working on his defense tonight. His arms are still very thin, but he looks thicker than he did at this time last year. He will always be a scrawny player in college because of his body type.

Boozer--a very streaky 3 point shooter. Went on a tear for a while.

Hamilton--I think he is already thicker than Thompson. He looked pretty raw like Pomlee. I saw him hit one three pointer. Hopefully the staff can teach him how to use his big body effectively in the paint.

    Haluska--no show.

Eikmeir--I think he could be really good in a couple years. He has a nice shot, seems to understand what's going on out there, and he is a very good passer. He is also quicker than I thought he would be. I just don't think he is big enough to do much this year--he really looks like a true freshman.

Bottom line is that out of the newcomers who were there tonight--Buckley, Eik, Hamilton, Pomlee--I don't see any of them breaking the startlng line up right away.

Re: Capital City League Games 6/22

It was my first time watching the CCL on Sunday as well royce - and I tend to agree with you.

BP did look a little bigger than last year to me and he was really stroking it. Did a good job controlling the team and had some really nice passes. IMO he will at least start the year over Buckley.

    Completely agree about Thompson.

I couldn't really get a read on Pomlee. Honestly the dude was so out of shape he could barely keep up out there. Extremely raw offensively but you can tell he will be a good rebounder and shotblocker. I was very pleasantly suprised by his height - he was barely shorter than Brackins.

I really liked Buckley and definitely has the look of a Big 12 player. Since Parker was the primary ballhandler he played off the ball and I didn't really get a chance to see his PG skills.

Hamilton was definitely bigger than I thought he would be and he was pretty nimble in my opinion. I was afraid he might be Big Skogs 2.0 but I think he'll be a contributor off the bench this season.

Eikmeier will probably play a little bit this year but I think he'll just get abused on the defensive end because of his lack of size. Definitely has a head for the game, a great looking shot, a quick release, etc. I think he has the physical tools to be a starter some day. A lot of it will depend on how much weight he can gain and how much he can improve defensively, but it's hard to get a read on how well guys can play defense in the CCL.

Overall was a good time but it wasn't the same as last year when you had MT, Rahshon, and Wesley flying all over the place.

Re: Capital City League Games 6/22

Keep in mind, the newcomers played all day Saturday until about 9 at night, got up early on Sunday and played until 1...then went to the CCL...I'll almost guarantee they were not as sharp as they were on Saturday.

It was my first time at the games. I think "Eikmeier" might be German for "scrappy." Nobody really stood out for me. The Peak Performance team got hammered, so that might be a bad sign for the ISU guys leading that one (Boozer, Garret, and Hamilton were there last night).

I know it was the skills camp this weekend KG, so I tried to keep that in mind especially with Pomlee. But the guy was laboring more than anybody else and IMO just physically looked out of shape.

I walked into State Gym and was absolutely disgusted watching LA...DG said he was tired and out of shape...Asked around...he's stiff and sore from lifting for the first time.

and he already has some decent size. He could be scary strong after a summer of lifting and conditioning...

I was told that LA has a gut on him right now. He looked the part in the CCL. But with some conditioning and lifting, he could be cut pretty easy. He looks to have the body for it

Yeah, he's going to be huge...Hamilton too.

I think, Mann is going to be the next Homan though. Nice guy, but just screams bad*** when you look at him. My biggest disappointment of the weekend was not getting a chance to watch him play.
