    My letter to Coach McCarney...

    Coach McCarney -

If the reports are true, that this will be your last season at Iowa State University, then I am truly sad for you, and myself.

You have given me nearly every Cyclone football memory that I have.

You gave me Troy Davis's 378 yard game against Missouri. I will never forget listening to that game with my dad, and having him tell me, "You will probably never hear of a game like that by a running back for a long time to come."

You gave me the opportunity to have my first ever Iowa State Cyclone game I had attended being the 1998 Iowa vs. Iowa State. I remember walking out of middle school football practice telling people, "I'm excited to see our *** kicked tomorrow," and yet, you gave me the second greatest memory of my Cylone fan "career."

You gave me a win against Oklahoma State in the waning seconds, when Sage Rosenfells hit Lane Danielson (or Lance Donaldson, if you listen to the OK State announcer) while my father and I listened and cheered next to a roaring fire and an open pickup truck with the radio playing.

You gave me Ennis Haywood, Jamaine Billups, Marcel Howard, and everbody else included in that glorious first bowl win in Iowa State history. I will forever have Billups' punt return engrained in my memory.

Thankyou for Seneca Wallace. I could easily say "'Nuff said." I will never forget 'The Run.' My dad still gives me crap for my reaction during that play. If I remember right, I was yelling "Throw it away! Throw it away! RUN! RUN! HOLY ****, DID YOU SEE THAT!!!!!" And who can forget that amazing game against Florida State in Arrowhead.

Thankyou for J.J Moses (and again, Milan Moses). Again, I can easily say, "'Nuff said." But I will never, ever, in my life forget that first play from scrimmage J.J. reverse that went for a touchdown against Iowa, especially that cut at the end.

Thankyou for putting this program on par, and often times above, that "other team" in the state, so I don't have to put up with their crap quite as much (although, they like to dish it out no matter the results of games and seasons...)

But most of all, Coach McCarney, thankyou for your commitment and loyalty to this program and this university. I know that wherever you may end up, you will likely be successful, and that school will have at least one more fan.

    Thankyou so much coach,

That's a nice letter. Good for you, showing appreciation for his efforts in a mature way.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

That is a beautiful letter. Coach Mac really did give it all. I, for one, cannot wait to give him a standing ovation at the Missouri game.

I'd already been thinking of flying back to Iowa for the Missouri game, just to show my respect and appreciation for the seniors. I feel it is time for a change, but now I want to show my appreciation for DMac as well.

This may be his last coached game as HC - attending would be great.

    Great letter.

It's time for a change but I feel terrible about it. Just terrible.

    GREAT LETTER.
I agree that we need to make a move, but it's been giving me a sick feeling in my stomache.

Well done sir, an ovation he will certainly get. I just pray that not many people come and boo him away, that would be awful.

If that happens I would be beyond disappointed in our fan base. In fact, I would be ******.

What a terrible message to send to the next coach as well.

You may want to think about sending that directly to him. I know he is going to get all types of letters, but no one ever gets enough of the positive ones.

Exactly right. I actually sat near those individuals (if you havent seen them) that wore paper bags over their heads at the game last week. I would then look over and see the players just looking at them. It was disappointing, and unfortunate.

Good luck to all on that staff.

Re: My letter to Coach McCarney...

Dan would still be coach next year if he had figured out how to beat KSU and Kansas, but frankly, hisd tewam just quit on him. The team is totally burned out. No stars left on the fireld was the problem except for the two linebackers. How did we get to this pooint? Did the captains get injured/sick and we lost the way a month ago. Or did offseason losses and injured do us in before Toledo? We proabably have had a spark for about a total of sixty minutes in 10 games so far. I do not know what happened to the internal spirit of the players. The fans were ready for a big year. Pollsters said we were number two in Big North. Can anyone explain why and how we slipped so far? Can we be this bad really? Just wondering out loud.
