    I need help (Uh, oh!)

    Hey, all!

I need help with something. I know this is simple, but my tired mind isn't getting it figured out.

I've scanned my college transcripts, for a job application. It comes out as 19MB in MS Word, and the employer can only accept 2 MB.

If I convert this to Adobe, would that help? If so, how do I do that?

Thanks! Please type slowly so I can understand. I am getting really tired.

PDF 995. Download and use. It acts like a printer, so all you do is print to it and it will covert it to PDF. I'm not sure if it will compress the file enough for you though, but its worth a shot.

If you do have a PDF writer. Go to "File" -> "Print". Under the Printer Name should be a pull down menu. One of the options in that pull down should be a writer to a PDF file. Select that and hit print. From there it is pretty much just like saving any other file.

I believe that Acrobat has a plug-in that allows you to scan straight into Acrobat as a PDF. I am not sure if converting a 19MB Word file to PDF would make much difference in terms of file size.

What scanner software are you using? You can try to scan it at a lower resolution to help reduce file size. Plus, I think when import anything into Word, the file size increases because Word adds a bunch of code and crap to the file.

I wouldn't want to work for someone with such a weak email system.

I just scanned it using my Photosmart 5180, using the one-touch option. I probably could have set it up better, I think.

It might have been scanned into Word as a TIFF image or some other image format that isn't compressed.

If you have some graphic or photo software, you could perhaps copy the image from Word into the photo software, and save it as a jpeg to compress it down, and then copy the compressed image back into Word...

I know of several systems that limit docs to 5mb. 2MB sounds like a Cox or AOL limit.

Our workplace has Sharepoint and Groove and ftp to move big docs.

Re: I need help (Uh, oh!)

It could just be that they say keep it to 2MB so people don't send in 19mb documents, because that'd be a pain.

Is there software that comes with the scanner? A user interface that allows you to change the resolution settings?

    SourceForge.net: PDFCreator

Like the other guy said. Just "print" the file to a PDF and e-mail that. You should be able t o get the resolution down to the point where the file isn't too big.

CutePDF - Create PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Edit PDF easily;.

This is what we use at work...
Install and select "CutePDF Writer" instead of your normal printer.

Also check the resolution that you scanned the original document in. For a non-graphic text file like your transcript, I would think you could go with a lower setting than what you previously used.

PrimoPDF works good too and it is free. You access it like a printer also.

    Just Google "PrimoPDF" and download.
