Who was the greatest golfer of all time?

Just figured I'd get this started. I'm torn between three, Tiger, the Golden Bear, and Bobby Jones.
The reason Bobby is on this list is because he was dominant, and golf wasn't even his day job.

Why is Tiger apart of this list.. he is still playing.

Who was the greatest golfer? Sam Snead or Old Country Tom.

My uneducated opinion is Nicklaus. It sure does seem that Tiger will catch him though.

Re: Who was the greatest golfer of all time?

This may be a bit of a cop out on my end, but, it's really hard to pick one. I think each one was great in their respective time, but, to say "Greatest, it's really hard to compare. What would tiger do with cast iron irons and wooden shafts. What would Bobby Jones have done with todays equipment. Even training methods. People really underestimate the power of video and computer technology and how it has helped people "perfect" a swing. Who knows how dominant an older player might have been or on the flip side, how dominant a rival may have been that was just missing that little something extra.

I really don't follow golf that closely. I watch here and there. I know names and I play. So, if I had to pick. I'd say Tiger. The guy really is amazing to watch and to be honest, I never really got to watch anyone else.

I'm gonna go with Babe Didrikson Zaharias...the first woman to compete with men's PGA event. But not only that; she was a triple medal winner in track and field at the Olympics, and an All-American in basketball.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Quoted for Truth. I'd love to see what the Golden Bear would have been in his prime with today's technology.

I agree...if Bobby played today with today's technology, he would be just as good as Eldrick is, and the Golden Bear was.

Re: Who was the greatest golfer of all time?

I'm an old dude and have followed golf for a very long time. I can't speak to Bobby Jones, and oh my God did I ever love Nicklaus - but Tiger is a once in a generation athlete - playing golf. And the truth is, I'm old school enough that I didn't like him when he hit the tour. Taking a Nike endorsement when he's partially asian and african-american - the very people that Nike takes advantage of - I held it against him. But watching what he does, for me, I can't imagine choosing anyone else. He's won me over, and that's not an easy thing to do.

ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)

Ya gotta have the horses, man - Johnny Orr.
