    Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

    http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn...c.php?t=146295

Speculation on candidates for ISU's HC job. Interesting thought on having a system than doesn't depend on being able to line up man on man vs the OU's and UT's of the world and taking them on physically.

Jonathan Hayes? Another Hawkeye? No mention of Harbaugh in the article.

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

He had me until he had Mac assuming the head coach position after Alvarez went on to AD there. Does he really think Miami would accept a coach fired by us?

Interesting list of coaches. Don't know if I've seen one name yet that's made me go "WOW!"

I keep hearing Harbaugh, Harbaugh, Harbaugh, but really what's he done? Are we willing to gamble on an unproven(BCS conf level) coach?

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

It was a well written article. Well, if the scenario plays out, Mac would have Alvarez at the AD spot. People listen when Barry talks. Mac would also get rid of all the crap around the program and clean it up. I would not mind seeing the Cal or Auburn offensive coaches, then again, I wouldn't mind Bo Pelini.

Wow...that's about as much info as we could get from someone other than Jamie Pollard.

Who said we can't get a coordinator at a big-time school (Auburn, Cal)!

    Wonder who his sources are?

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

Al Borges sounds like a good coach. Lots of experience, considered "one of the best offensive minds in the country", named offensive coordinator of the year before, California native with ties to Pac-10 schools, and current SEC ties. Should be good for recruiting.

As long as Pelini doesn't want to retain Cotton as OC.

I agree with you Superfan, of the names listed in the article, Borges would be one that I would like. Just no one from Neb or EIU, okay JP?

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

    what about this guy?

    Golden nugget in Montana

Remember the name: Bobby Houck. He's the head coach at Montana, and he's dang good. A source told me that Houck has had a couple of teams inquire about his services this fall. That's nothing new, as I'm told the rising young coach has had four to five suitors each of the past two seasons. But my source tells me Houck isn't gonna jump for just any ol' Division I-A job. It's gotta be a good gig. No doubt, I get the vibe that it's not if, but when, Houck leaves Montana.

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

Dunbar may be interesting. Hayes too inexperienced, same forr Cubit, Borges career coordinator (20 yrs why no HC shot by now) Rhoads also could be intersting. Can't really see Novell or Wilson.

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

After re-reading the article, how about Co-Head coaches? Al Borges can be our Offensive Head Coach and Paul Rhoads can be our Defensive Head Coach. Now that could be fun....

My boss is HUGE Montana booster and

they aren't nearly as excited by them as you would think. Lots of hired talent from other D1 schools and the offense hasn't performed while the defense is great. While they are contenders their facilities make everyone else in that conference look like step-children.

Re: Coaching possibilities - Sporting News

I thought that Barry Alvarez and Jamie Pollard were on the outs after Pollard poached a bunch of Alvarez's employees? If so, this guy certainly doesn't know much about it.

Also not thrilled with that list of names. Not really excited about Paul Rhodes -- he hasn't done much and Pitt isn't that great of a program, maybe just a notch above ISU. I'm sure JP knows what he is doing though.
