Valley's Alex Sandvig (ISU recruit) suffers knee injury in play-off win

    DMR Link

    (just part of the article)

Valley will likely play the rest of its season without wide receiver Alex Sandvig, who sustained an apparent injury to his left knee while returning a punt 36 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

The Tigers played without tailback Joe Johnson, who has an ankle injury, and have lost backup tailback Michael Klacik for the season with a hip injury. Zach Cutkomp, who replaced Johnson and Klacik, gained 71 yards on 14 carries despite playing on a bad ankle.

"I keep saying injuries are a part of the game, but, boy, you've got to shake your head," Valley coach Gary Swenson said. "You lose a kid like (Sandvig) to an ACL, we're hoping to get Joe back, but we don't know that, either. Klacik's gone - you just go out and play, see what you can do. Who knows?"

Sandvig's touchdown proved to be all of the scoring Valley would need on a night when East running back Tre-Darrius Canady was held to 57 yards - well below his 129-yard, three-touchdown effort in a 21-14 upset of Dowling Catholic on Wednesday night.

"As a defensive unit, we've jelled throughout the year, and now I think it's all coming together," said Valley defensive end Jake McDonough. "We're all flying to the ball and showing what we can actually do."

Sandvig appeared to leap into the end zone, and the landing began the end of the Iowa State recruit's season.

"After I got in, I came down at a weird angle," Sandvig said. "When I initially hit the ground and put pressure on it, that's when my knee popped. Whoever it was that hit me on the side of the knee, that's when it popped a second time."

Here is an updated story on the DSM Register. Does not sound good at all. Especially the part about "the doc thought he tore about everything you could tear."

He'll redshirt next year and hopefully be ready to go after that.
Kind of like Derron Montgomery this year.

    That sounds painful.
