    Tires in Des Moines???

I have to get a new set of tires for the family truckster.

What place is going to give me the best deal on the best tires with balancing, etc, etc?

Sam's Club bar none......Free mounting, balancing and road hazard for tires that are as well priced as anyone. Even if you have to pay the annual membership to get the tires there is a good chance you'll still come out ahead.

Costco has a similar deal as Sam's. I just got 4 new tires on the Accord for $400 including everything.

Make sure the load carrying capacity which is in small print on the side of the tire is the same as what you now have. I was in a hurry and had a momentary lapse last week buying a pickup tire at Walmart and neglected to check that so now I have one tire that's only rated about 85% of the others. If you're paying less there''s usually a reason.

    Re: Tires in Des Moines???

I have purchased three sets of tires and after pricing Sam's, Costco, and Sears on all of them Tirerack.com beat their price.

You have to take into account shipping charges, paying someone to mount and balance, and no sales tax when doing the comparison, but tirerack.com has won out each time I've compared.

tirerack.com and the Big O tire that is across the street from my office. Was quicker than getting good tires from one of the shops in town because no one carries 225/50 ZR17s.

Just got a quote from Big O.

    4 - 225/55 R17s mounted, balanced, out the door for $514.

Haven't bought tires in a long time and don't know what kind of deal that is.

Not too bad unless they are a crappy brand. After blowing out a tire on the interstate going 75 mph, I am sticking to Z rated tires from now on. The extra $150 is worth it.

Those are close to the same size I got on my maxima a few months back. It was just under $700 for Goodyear F1's from tirerack after tires, shipping, and balance/mount.

These are supposed to be 65,000 mile tires made by Cooper. Can't remember what the brand name he said they were.

    Re: Tires in Des Moines???

I went to Big-O per this board, they didn't have what I needed on hand.

Went to Cross-Dillon, they are more of a big truck/industrial tire shop, but they do passenger vehicles too. Anyway, they had what I needed, and better prices to boot. Better than anything I found on the net. Cross-Dillon is my first stop now.
