I still don't understand why he didn't stay at ISU. Did he finally get enough time at home to give bball another shot?

So much for the "mama's boy, homesick" theory.

I was kind of expecting that. Vette was never a d1 player, IMO.

I never did figure this kid out. He had the body to play at a high level. I think he could have been servicable role player for the team with some offensive development. I hope he has found a place that makes him happy.

    Re: Clayton Vette to

Did I like the prospects in Vette? Yes. I felt if he put forth the effort, he could've been a good player for us. Likely not great, but good.

Did I like his effort? Not even in the slightest.

Now granted, the Cap. City League is not known for guys going on the court and working hard. But man, last summer - he was by far the player that "slacked off" the most during those games.

Could've been his heart wasn't it in or that could really be him - a guy that won't work hard. I don't know.

Hopefully he did get his issues worked out and he has a nice career at Winona.

I for one hope Clayton does well. It is not like he Wes Johnson-ed us. Is that a term of art now BTW?

    Re: Clayton Vette to

The whole homesick thing is still confusing. He grew up about 90 minutes from Ames. I grew up about 60 minutes from Ames and I couldn't wait to get out of the house, in fact there were times the folks wondered if I would ever come home. It wasn't that I had a bad relationship with my parents because we did have a good relationship, it was more that I was from rural Iowa and found the college expirience a lot of fun and was glad to be out on my own. Even if you were a "mama's boy" 90 minutes is not a long ways from home.

Best of luck to Clayton, wish he had given ISU a try for the whole season first before making this decision though.

I'm pretty certain that there was more to the story than just home sickness.

    Re: Clayton Vette to

It was posted before but definitely a good topic to bring forward as it didn't receive too much attention. Winona State definitely is, if not thee, one of the top D2 programs in the nation.

It was more than home sickness, personal information and illnesses, which were very influential in Clayton's departure.

Best of luck to Clayton at Winona.

    Re: Clayton Vette to

Winona State is a good program and he will fit in there. If I were to guess he might have wanted more out of his spot then he could get at Iowa State and didn't realize that until he got on the court with those type of players.

Well, Clayton just dropped us midseason. They're two different incidents, but we also don't know if there weren't personal issues or whatever in Wes' case.

People just weren't as mad at Clayton cause he wasn't near as good as Wes.
