Why Flynn made the switch from QB to WR in '05...

I posted this in response to another thread, but felt this would lift our spirits a bit in its own thread...

Does anyone now wonder why Flynn was so eager to switch to wide receiver? I think the conversation actually went something like this....

Coach: Austin, we'd still like you to be our back-up quarterback in '05.
Flynn: Aw hell no. Have you seen our offensive line?
Coach: But, but - how will we run our best play - Flynn on the keeper?
Flynn: I don't care man - run Shaggy on the keeper for all I care. Put me at receiver.
Coach: OH! Shaggy on the keeper, I like that. Has a nice ring to it, even better than Flynn on the keeper. How do you spell Shaggy again?
Flynn: *sigh* Just put me at receiver, coach.

I think we should start Flynn at QB against Mizzou. As for why....Why not?

    Why not?

Well, Meyer's been running for his life all year, right? And Flynn has a banged up ankle, slowing him down a bit.

Bad offensive line + QB with a limp = K.O.

I would guess Flynn would reinact a clip from Saw I before getting under center this year.

On a serious note, these last two games would be a great chance for the coaches to really open up the playbook, run some different looks, try some unorthodox play-calling, and do some fun stuff for the players. Unfortunately, that would go against the way that the coaching has gone for the past 3 years, and it would be pointless (assuming the coaching staff is going to be gone after the season) except for some fan entertainment, and maybe a good time for the players if the crazy stuff works.

I think we should try a double reverse, long bomb to a streaking Curvey down the side. Oh yeah, Shaggy is going to make the pass. That will really F with the opposing defense.

That's probably the one thing CU has been preparing for all year. Lord knows they haven't been ready for anything else.

the offense can do pretty much whatever they want as long as it doesn't involve putting arnaud on the field. that'll **** me off

as for flynn, it's too bad this season's pretty much blown whatever chance he had at going to the NFL...

In another moment of genius, I've come up with a new offensive scheme for the ISU to try out this week:

A split shotgun set w/ Flynn and Meyer.

That's right. Set up with Flynn and Meyer in the backfield like a split backfield. Then Stephenson could snap it to either and the QB that doesn't get the ball can either go out for a swing pass/screen or maybe run a double reverse with Moses/Sumrall. Flynn could potentially block when Meyer gets the snap. If anything, it would certainly show up on Sportscenter.

The thing I was most impressed with at the Kansas game.....OK its the only thing I was impressed with at the Kansas game was seeing Flynn rally the defensive players right next to Skladany. It's too bad Flynn had to go out on a bad year, but I really hope he can continue his career in the NFL.

I don't Flynn had much of a shot in the NFL as it was. David Eckstein-types may work in MLB, but an abundance of hustle/heart with not as much talent doesn't work in the NFL very frequently.

yeah, it'd be a highlight on sportscenter - there'd be a typical jailhouse 4-man blitz and two quarterbacks being sacked in the backfield on the same play. i don't think that's EVER happened...

Ya know dccyclone, that sounds like a pretty good strategy, and it would be really fun to watch. Unfortunately we know we will never see something like that. Pity.

nah, if you're willing to catch the ball in the middle of the field and take a hit the way flynn is, any team will take you. i know back in the 90s the bears had a guy like that, the panthers currently have someone like that... if you can take a shot and hold the ball they'll gamble on you...

it's just too bad meyer was on his back all season before meyer could deliver him the ball
