    November 20, 2006

Putting your wants and desires aside, will Coach Dan McCarney be Iowa State's head football coach on November 20, 2006 (2 days after the Missouri game)?

This isn't personal preference...do you think he will be fired? Yes or no.

I was lucky enough to upgrade my season ticket and sit in the club seats (got tickets from a friend) and all the talk there was about a buyout. And there was some $$$ sitting around me.

PS. The club seats are amazing. Perfect to watch everything unfold.

    How much?

    Did you pick it up?

If not, give me the section number and row, I'll swing up to JTS today...

To answer your question, I have no idea.

I think he probably will be. I think he'll probably be our head coach next year.

Should he be? That is another story entirely.

    Re: November 20, 2006

At this time it's pure speculation. Part of me wants to jump on the 'Fire Mac' bandwagon but the rest of me wonders if JP can afford to pay 1+ million on contract buyouts and have enough money to entice a new coach and staff while all along building up his coffers to pay for the renovations...Basically, I have no idea if Mac will be gone or not.

    Re: November 20, 2006

Again, this isn't a "should he be fired" or "I want him gone" quesiton...it's do you think Mac will be the HC on November 20.

ISUFan, I'm pretty much with you...I literally have no idea what's going to happen. If you had to guess, what would you say?

I can't see how he can stay and it produce positive results...If I had to bet on it, I would guess that Mac will NOT be our coach after the Missouri game.

I think he stays, but the enitre offensive coaching staff leaves. I actually think Skladany stays, he deserves a raise after what he has had to work with this year.

That's just it, I can't guess right now.

When you factor in the on-field performance, history, recruits, dollars, boosters, etc - it's a go figure.

If that happens, I think Pollard is just asking for another subpar year. And then how bad would they have to do next year to actually get fired?

And on the topic of the job Skladany has done with "what he has to work with," who is in charge of recruiting offensive vs. defensive players? Does Mac handle all of it, or do the assistant coaches help out with that?

    Re: November 20, 2006

I think he is back, with a new staff. Maybe Alford stays. Hope so, I like Tony. I believe if JP really wants to pull the trigger, he can get it funded from frustrated boosters. I think ticket revenue over the next 3-5 years is more of a concern to JP than the impact of a buyout.

But he did not think he would lose his top 3 returning players to injury and stupidity.

    Re: November 20, 2006

How is it, logically - that many/most/all assistants can get fired and Pollard/D-Mac expect to find good assistants to take their place? Who in their right mind would come here after a season like this, knowing full well D-Mac is on the hot seat?

IMO, there are two real choices to be made.

    - Start over with the entire staff.
    - Keep all/most of them.

This is true. And the amount of money that would be used for a buyout would be relatively insignificant compared to the amount of money Pollard is raising for renovations. So I don't know if "not having the funds" would really be an issue.

But if we lose 3 guys and it destroys the entire defense, then i don't think we had a very good defense in the first place.

Although losing Berryman was pretty crippling.
